Barry Keoghan Addresses ‘Deadbeat Dad’ Taunts: ‘Sickens Me’

Barry Keoghan has finally addressed *those* deadbeat dad allegations. You see, ever since he shacked up with pop princess Sabrina Carpenter, people have accused him of ditching his 2-year-old son Brando to pursue his new relationship.

But he’s just revealed there’s one particular reason he hasn’t been sharing photos of his son on social media, and it makes total sense.

Speaking to Louis Theroux on The Louis Theroux Podcast, he said that he’s purposely keeping his son private because “there’s sick people out there”.

“People kind of have a judgement on me as a parent,” Keoghan said. “I’m like, well, until you’ve walked a day in my shoes growing up as a kid, then you can comment… there’s a lot online. If I didn’t have tough skin or the strength I have, I wouldn’t be sitting here.”

He continued: “The more in the public I’ve become, the less I’ve posted about my child, because I don’t think it’s fair to put my child online, there’s sick people out there.”

Keoghan noted he’s seen the “narrative” about how he’s an “‘absent father, shit deadbeat dad’ and more disgusting things that [he] wouldn’t even repeat”.

“Just the audacity of some people, man, it sickens me more than it makes me furious,” he added.

The Saltburn actor has previously talked about his own background, which he says impacts his own parenting blueprint. He grew up without a father and his mother died when he was just 12 years old from a heroin overdose.

“Of course, it’s going to affect me being a father when I had no blueprint to take from. People just read that [as] laziness and go, ‘Oh, that’s no excuse to be an absent father’,” Keoghan said. “I’m not an absent father.”

He also finally confirmed his relationship with Sabrina Carpenter, even though we’ve known about how obsessed he is with the singer for yonks now. I mean, he’s turned up to watch her perform a bunch of times and even starred in her “Please Please Please” music video.

“All I’m gonna say is, yeah, I’m incredibly blessed,” Keoghan said about Carpenter. “Such a strong, independent lady who’s massively talented and yeah, very special.”

Even though their relationship hasn’t really been much of a secret, it’s nice to get that lil’ bit of extra tea straight from the horse’s mouth!
