Barcelona youngster Pau Cubarsi suffers HORROR facial injury requiring 10 stitches after getting kicked in the face during Hansi Flick’s side’s Champions League win

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has confirmed the wellbeing of youngster Pau Cubarsi, who suffered a nasty facial injury during their Champions League win on Wednesday night.

The defender was forced to leave the action partway through the second half of their clash against Crvena zvezda after taking a boot to the face. Cubarsi had stooped to meet a cross with his head but was left bloodied after the studs of Uros Spajic were planted into the side of his head.

The 17-year-old received treatment from medical staff before being substituted in the 67th minute for Sergi Dominguez.

Blaugrana ran our comfortable 5-2 victors in Serbia, as their resurgence under Flick shows no signs of slowing down. And after the match the German confirmed that the defender is on the mend, while an image released on social media showed his condition after receiving 10 stitches.

‘He needed stitches’, the 59-year-old said at the end of his interview with reporters. ‘But he’s fine.’

Barcelona climbed up to sixth in the Champions League group phase, with a matchday one defeat to Monaco while down to ten men the only blemish on their record so far.

Meanwhile in LaLiga, Barcelona hold an eight-point advantage over their bitter rivals, who they thumped 4-0 at the Bernabeu last month, though Los Blancos have a game in hand.

On Wednesday night, goals from Inigo Martinez, Raphinha, Fermín Lopez and a brace from Robert Lewandowski clinched the victory.

‘I value what we have done and everything that we are doing’, Flick said post-match. ‘We’re playing very well with the ball, but we’re also creating pressure and defending very well. It wasn’t easy because Red Star know how to play, and how to defend. We had a great game.

‘What mattered was winning, and especially here because it’s not easy to win away in Europe. So I’m very happy … I hope we can keep this rhythm up for the whole season and stay confident. It won’t be easy, but we are working hard and after the international break I hope things stay like that. The team is doing very well, they’re fabulous, and we need to keep competing like that.’

Barcelona have been phenomenal in front of goal this season, resulting in the club ranking highest among teams for goals in the Champions League and Europe.
