Whether you love her or hate her, there’s no denying that Azealia Banks is a true wordsmith — and her latest tweets blasting JK Rowling for her transphobia proves just that.
For some reason this week, the rapper came for the Harry Potter author’s jugular, putting her on blast for her non-stop transphobia on X (formerly Twitter).
“No shade @jk_rowling, thanks for the follow and I love you down sis,” the tweet began.
“But transwomen are not a threat to your femininity. You are too rich and too legendary to keep spewing the same stuff over and over and over.”

“The real problem in the world is crimes against children.
“Adults are gonna be who they wanna be and sleep with who they want to.”
Banks also mentioned that her brother, who is transgender, experienced “unwarranted abuse” due to transphobia.
“It’s not a mental illness, it’s a spiritual thing.
“One would assume that you of all people who [has] written about books about magic and esoteric things would be able to comprehend how states of consciousness vary in a human being.”
If there’s one thing that we’ve come to rely upon when it comes to Banks, it’s that she has a PhD in reading someone down to the bone.
Banks, while responsible for club classic bangers like “212”, “New Bottega”, and “The Big Big Beat”, is infamous online for her many feuds with other musicians, airplane staff, and the entire country of Australia. (Don’t expect a tour any time soon.)
However, she’s also come under fire multiple times for offensive comments directed towards the LGBTQ+ community, including towards transmen and women.
In a Reddit post discussing Banks’ tweet, one commenter wrote: “Don’t celebrate this.”
“Azealia vacillates all over the place but her baseline is hatred and bigotry,” the user continued.

Another user chimed in with this pearl of wisdom: “I have tried to explain the entity that is Azaelia Banks to my friends and the best I can conjure is like some kind of ancient soothsayer who is mostly mad but occasionally has moments of oracle-like clarity where she delivers profound truths. Then she calls you a slur.”
JK Rowling has not responded to Azaelia’s take down, but she rarely responds to the many, many high profile names who call her out for transphobia. Mostly she spends her one previous life posting non-stop transphobic stuff on X.
She’s also probably dealing with a lawsuit from Algerian Olympic Imane Khelif, a cisgender woman who claims Rowling and others (including X owner Elon Musk) committed “acts of aggravated cyber aggression”.
While Rowling has been criticised by fans and celebrities alike for her transphobic beliefs — with even Daniel Radcliffe denouncing her for The Trevor Project — Banks seems like one of the more… unlikely allies.
Anyway. Let us be amongst those saying “hell yeah, Azealia” while we wait for her next shocking and/or surprisingly true rant in future.
