Austrian migrant gang-rape horror: Girl, 12, ‘passed around like a “trophy” by more than a dozen boys’ during horrifying repeated sex attacks in Vienna

A 12-year-old Austrian girl was subjected to a horrifying gang-rape ordeal at the hands of at least a dozen migrant boys who taped their abuse and passed her around like a ‘trophy’, it has emerged.

Named in local media as Mia, the young girl was reportedly subject to several sex attacks from a number of boys between February and June 2023 in garages, at perpetrators’ apartments and other locations in Vienna.

Austrian police said on March 1, 2024, that they were investigating 17 people, most of them minors, on suspicion of sexually abusing the 12-year-old girl. They included Austrian, Turkish, Syrian, Italian, Bulgarian and Serbian nationals.

Twelve of the suspects were minors between the ages of 14 and 18, one was 19, and two were below the age of criminal responsibility, which is 14 in Austria, and the identities of two others were unknown, said Florian Finda, a senior official with Vienna’s state criminal police office. 

But now, the 18-year-old boyfriend of the girl has become the first perpetrator to be convicted in a case which has shocked the Austrian capital. 

Afghan migrant, Wais S, appeared in Vienna Regional Court on Monday to face trial over the serious sexual abuse of the minor. He was 15-years-old at the time of the gang rape incident which reportedly took place in a hostel room in Vienna.

According to German newspaper Bild, Wais knew that the young girl, who has been given the name Mia by local media, was under the age of 14 at the time of the attack in 2023, and had impregnated her.

‘I plead partially guilty,’ the defendant testified during the trial. ‘I thought if she was 12 and I was 15, it was allowed.’ 

During the trial, the teenager also admitted to blackmailing his young girlfriend after the abortion of their child with self-made videos of them having sex.

‘She cheated on me at ski camp. I had bought her a ring with my last money because I loved her so much. She gave it back to me because she was afraid I would publish the videos,’ he said in court, according to the German newspaper.

An expert who analysed Wais S.’s mobile phone during the case disturbingly stumbled across a post on the TikTok channel ‘ExposingVienna’.

‘It’s about public shaming and revenge porn,’ he said. ‘It looks like something was published. The defendant wrote: “She gangbanged 15 guys, posts videos, do you want videos, hahahaha?”‘ 

The mother of the now 14-year-old girl, told media: ‘He acted as a savior, but in fact he alienated our daughter from us’.

In a harrowing report from Austria’s largest newspaper Kronen Zeitung, the schoolgirl was allegedly passed around among the teenagers like a ‘trophy’.

Footage of the abuse saw the girl yelling: ‘Stop it’, several times. 

But Wais’ latest testimony strikingly contradicted the one he supplied on October 30, 2023.

He reportedly said at the time: ‘You have to imagine, she was 12, a little girl who was defenseless against several guys between the ages of 14 and 19’.

The judge sentenced Wais to 15 months probation and £670 in damages.

This has become the first conviction in the chilling case, after investigators from the Vienna State Criminal Police Office stormed a number of apartments and temporarily arrested 17 suspects in February 2024.

At least four cell phones were also seized during the raid.

The victim and her mother reported the case to authorities in October 2023. 

Following extensive investigations, the 13 known suspects aged 14 and above were questioned, Finda said. 

Some admitted to the allegations and others rejected them; one of them, a 16-year-old was arrested for resisting officers.

Several of the boys claimed the sex had been consensual during interrogations, and also said the girl had ‘pretended to be older than 14’. 

The boys were suspected of serious sexual abuse of a minor and pornographic depiction of a minor, Finda said.

In one case, force was allegedly used; in the rest, the victim was verbally pressured into sex, investigators said last year.

In October 2024, the first suspect, a 16-year-old Syrian, appeared in court after allegedly raping the young girl in a train station parking area in 2023 and blackmailing her with secretly filmed footage of her performing a sex act.

‘[He] asked me if I would give him a b******. I replied that I didn’t do that sort of thing. But he didn’t let up,’ Mia said, according to a Bild report from the following month.

The Syrian boy allegedly responded in a statement: ‘Almost everything she said is true. But I didn’t put my hand on her head to hold her down. She did it herself’. 

Finda said at the time: ‘She stated that she had been violently abused once. The perpetrator was a 16-year-old Syrian. 

‘After that, the others constantly pressured her to sleep with them… She showed us chat messages saying that there was a video of her having sex, and if she didn’t want it published, she should sleep with them’.

The suspect faced five years in prison if he was found guilty, but was was later acquitted of the rape charges after claiming he did not realise Mia was 12 – expressing that she had looked older.

The gang rape of Mia is still under investigation, however, with her lawyer, Sascha Flatz, 45, hoping for an indictment soon.

‘The victim must be shown that the rule of law is taking action and that she will not be left alone,’ he said.

It comes after a group of teenage boys were arrested over the alleged gang rape and blackmailing of a female Austrian school teacher.

The teacher, 29, was allegedly raped by three young men ‘for several hours’ on two separate dates last year, prosecutors told local newspaper Kronen Zeitung on March 13.

The alleged victim is understood to have entered into an ‘intimate relationship’ with one of the accused, aged 17, roughly one year ago.

She fell pregnant by the teen, who was her former student, and claims he pressured her into having an abortion, the prosecution claimed.

Recordings were allegedly made of the pair’s sexual encounters, which the teacher claims were used by the youths to blackmail her into buying and using drugs, the newspaper reports.

The woman was then allegedly gang-raped by three members of the group, which included an Iraqi, two Austrians, two Afghans and a Romanian. It is not known which of the group are the three accused of rape.

Her Vienna apartment was also set on fire, according to reports.

A total of seven young men, ages 14 to 17, are being investigated on suspicion of rape, extortion, and arson. Five of them are currently in custody.

The teens vehemently deny the rape allegations.

In another horror incident, a pair of asylum seekers accused of luring, drugging and raping two teenage girls stood trial in Vienna on March 12.

The girls, aged 14 and 15, had been celebrating the country’s national holiday in Keplerplatz, in the south of the capital, last October when the men encouraged them to get into a taxi.

The unnamed men, reported to be Algerian nationals aged 24 and 32, allegedly told the girls ‘come on, we’ll take you to a party’, before luring them to an illegally occupied ‘horror house’, Austrian media reported.

There the men allegedly forced them to take various drugs and subjected them to 15 hours of horrific abuse, threatening to kill them if they did not comply.

‘The younger man held a gun to my temple,’ the 14-year-old is reported to have said during her interrogation, with the pistol later being revealed to be a toy gun.

The men allegedly raped the teenagers and forced them to perform sexual acts on them, with the 15-year-old girl said to have been grabbed and strangled by the older of the two men.

The girls reportedly testified that they were treated like objects by the men, and were left with injuries including strangulation marks, bruises and scratches after the brutal assault.
