For the most part, listening to a selection of podcasts daily makes me feel like I am a constantly evolving, clever person. However, one of the biggest downsides is the absolutely unhinged parasocial relationships I’ve developed with the hosts of my favourite podcasts. This particular issue came to a head when I found out that my best friend Toni Lodge from The Toni And Ryan Podcast was engaged, and I screamed in a manner only fitting for my nearest and dearest.
After a whole week of teasing a huge scoop, Toni and her co-host Ryan Jon finally came through with the exciting goss on Friday’s episode, revealing that Toni’s partner Taubs got down on one knee after 11 years of dating.
In the episode, Toni revealed that Taubs proposed on a Sunday night when they were at home, hanging out and watching TV.
“We were gonna go do some food shopping and Taubs was like, ‘I’m just going to go and get changed’. I was on the couch in my nightie and when he walked back out, he wasn’t changed but he had the ring,” Toni explains.
“He knelt down next to the couch where I was and was like ‘will you please marry me?’”
Now, while many women would have screamed yes through a fit of love-filled tears, Toni took a different tactic — she said no.
“I was like ‘no, what?!’ because it was a total surprise. I had no idea. I had no words,” she said, with Ryan noting that it was a rare moment of silence for the podcaster.
In a true comedy of errors moment, Toni proceeded to fall off the couch as she tried to stand up.
But, eventually, after a significant amount of hullabaloo for one of the most important, romantic moments of her life, she gave Taubs a resounding “yes”.

According to Toni, the low-key proposal was her dream situation — and she truly didn’t see it coming.
“It was ABSOLUTELY my ideal situation!!!!” she told her best friend PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“I would have passed away if it were something in public or really over the top. Also once you’ve been dating someone for over two or three years, every single holiday you go on everyone goes ‘ooooooo’ and clocks your ring finger as soon as you land back home, so it was nice that it was SUCH a massive surprise.”
After keeping the exciting news under wraps close friends Toni, Ryan (and I) are so stoked that the engagement is finally out in the open.
“Oh my god it feels amazing to have the cat out of the bag,” Toni says.
“I am so so glad we got a little bit of time in our love bubble before sharing it online, just because it felt so fun to have such a sexy little secret. But I am MORE than ready for attention now (hence being interviewed for an article).”
