Argentina get the break
The break is on.
Etcheverry’s return proves too strong, and Argentina take a 2-1 lead in the first set.
Etcheverry is at his best when he’s back on the baseline, which means Australia need to target him when he’s at the net and capitalise on the Carle serve.
Perez shows early aggression
Ellen Perez is not messing around.
Her net play is quick, she’s looking for the volley, and she’s sending balls straight to the body of Carle.
Argentina aren’t as settled on the court. Etcheverry sends one ball into the net and another over the baseline to let the Australians off with an easy first game.
Australia lead 1-0 in the first set
Aussies to serve first
Our mixed doubles players are on the court.
The Australian’s will serve first after Argentina decided to receive when they won the coin toss.
The players are just having a quick warm up – we’re about five minutes away from play beginning.
Carle in for Podoroska in mixed doubles
We have one change to the mixed doubles’ decider.
Nadia Podoroska is out and Maria Lourdes Carle is in.
Team Australia stays the same with Ellen Perez and Matt Ebden to take to the court.
De Minaur celebrates victory
‘There is no better way to start the new season’: de Minaur
De Minaur wins in straight sets
Game, set and match.
De Minaur claims a 6-1, 6-4 victory on Ken Rosewall Arena in an hour and 15 minutes.
He proves too strong for his Argentine opponent, and now we have a mixed doubles’ decider.
De Minaur to serve for the match
De Minaur is up 5-4 in the second and is serving for the match with new balls.
Etcheverry has found consistency as the set has gone on, but the damage was done early, and it looks like de Minaur has this is the bag unless the Argentine can pull out something special.
Aussies in control as de Minaur gets the break
Four break points for Alex de Minaur, and he finally manages to capitalise.
Etcheverry saves three, but the Aussie eventually breaks the Argentine’s serve and goes 2-1 up in the second set.
Etcheverry is far too deep in the court, and de Minaur has his scrambling from side-to-side. He already looks exhausted out there, while de Minaur looks like he could play all night.
