Aussie woman rushed to hospital after plunging 10m from a bridge while holidaying in Bali

An Australian woman has been seriously injured after she fell 10 metres from a  bridge while holidaying in Bali.

Sharyn Maree Lewis, was staying at a resort on Nusa Lembongan, a small island in Bali’s south-east, with her partner to celebrate her 59th birthday when disaster struck on Sunday morning.

Klungkung Police spokesperson Agus Widiono said that the Queensland woman was riding a rented motorbike across Yellow Bridge, which connects to Nusa Ceningan, another nearby small island.

‘When she almost arrived at the end of the bridge, the motorbike’s brake suddenly stopped working,’ Mr Widiono said.

‘She and the motorbike fell down around 10 metres from the bridge.’

Ms Lewis was rushed to East Medical Care Center in Lembongan at about 11.40am local time.

She has since been evacuated to BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua, in mainland Bali’s south.

‘The victim suffered an open wound in her right thigh,’ Mr Widiono said.

Photos from the hospital showed several nurses gathered around Ms Lewis lying on a bed as her partner waiting anxiously outside. 

There has been no further update on Ms Lewis’ condition.

The horrific incident came just two days before Ms Lewis’ 59th birthday. 

Daily Mail Australia has contacted BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the family for further comment. 

It’s understood Ms Lewis and her partner had been holidaying in Bali since October 5.
