Aussie tourist Cameron Twiss disappears while hiking in Albania – as desperate search is launched after concerning discovery at his hostel

An Australian man has gone missing while hiking in Albania with his passport and belongings found at the hostel where he had been staying.

Cameron Twiss, 28, from Adelaide, was last seen five-and-a-half weeks ago when he set off on a hike from the village of Valbona in the country’s north.

Albanian authorities have launched a search effort and his brother has travelled from Australia to the country in Europe’s southeast to assist them, but no trace of Mr Twiss has been found.

The keen traveller had set off on a popular hiking trail that connects Valbona to the nearby village of Teth on October 13.

The 10-hour trek follows a 17km route that includes a mountain pass through a remote area of the Albanian Alps where there are no roads.

Having a local guide is recommended but it is understood Mr Twiss had left for the the hike alone.

The Albanian Mountain Search and Rescue Service have conducted a search on foot and with drones.
