Aussie billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes sues former employee who allegedly stole secret information from the major tech company

Mike Cannon-Brookes is suing a former employee accused of stealing confidential documents about his billion-dollar businesses.

Kevin Chiu is company secretary of Cannon Brookes Services and a number of other tech companies owned by the successful Rich Lister.

Cannon-Brookes Services has moved in the Supreme Court of NSW to injunct Mr Chiu and prevent him from disclosing sensitive information, the Australian Financial Review has reported.

Mr Chiu has been ordered to hand over all his phones, emails, hard drives and computers, along with all usernames and passwords, as a result of the legal move.

Mr Cannon-Brookes, 45, wants to prevent Mr Chiu from using, disclosing, publishing, or retaining the information he allegedly took, court documents said.

Under Mr Chiu’s employment contract, that would include any information relating to Cannon-Brookes, his wife, children, family and friends.

Mr Chiu was also asked not to alter or destroy any documents.

The matter is expected to return to court next week.

Born in the US, Mr Cannon-Brookes attended school in Sydney and graduated from the University of New South Wales before founding software company Atlassian.

He and his former wife, American fashion designer Annie, are worth a combined $24.4billion and came in third on the Australian Financial Review’s 2024 Rich List.

The couple separated after 13 years of marriage in July 2023, and are still in the process of carving up their assets.

They own dozens of properties in Sydney including Fairwater mansion, Australia’s most expensive house.

‘They’re both focused on their children as their number one priority right now,’ a family representative said. ‘They ask that their privacy is respected.’

In November, rumours swirled the tech boss was dating a ‘civilian’ who he met in the NSW Southern Highlands, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Cannon-Brookes owns several properties in the area, adding to his portfolio by purchasing three neighbouring properties in Mittagong for $12.25million in 2024.

Atlassian declined to comment when approached by Daily Mail Australia.
