Aubrey Plaza’s last Instagram post with husband Jeff Baena before his death showed how ‘proud’ she was of him

Aubrey Plaza’s final Instagram post with her husband, Jeff Baena, who was found dead inside his Los Angeles, California, home on Friday, revealed how ‘proud’ she was of him. 

In her last post with Baena, shared in May 2021, the award-winning actress praised her ‘darling husband’.

‘So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that take us to Italia to cause some more trouble,’ she captioned the post.

The heartbreaking last post together featured the star couple lovingly gazing into each other’s eyes.

The touching picture was accompanied by screenshots of a 2021 Deadline article detailing the couple’s ‘new assignment’ – the 2022 film Spin Me Round. 

‘Excited to be reunited with the amazing @alisonbrie (who also co-wrote this one!) … and so many more fun people in this. Preparati!!’ she finished writing in the post’s caption. 

The actress’s filmmaker husband was found dead inside his West Coast home on Friday, the DailyMail.com previously confirmed. Baena was reportedly found by an assistant inside his LA home around 10:30am on December 3.

The family has since told Deadline that they are devastated by the news and are asking for privacy at this time.

Baena was first reported to have been in a relationship with Plaza in 2011.

The pair would quietly marry years later, in 2020, but waited to announce their marriage to the public until May 2021.

The 47-year-old filmmaker began his career with a move to Los Angeles after graduating from New York University with a degree in film.

He worked low-level jobs for big directors, including Robert Zemeckis and David O. Russell as he found his footing in the industry. He worked as a production assistant for Zemeckis and as an assistant editor for Russell. 

He is best known for directing Life After Beth – his directorial debut and one Plaza starred in – which premiered at Sundance in 2014. 

His film Joshy also premiered at the famous festival and was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize.

He also co-wrote I Heart Huckabees, which was nominated for a 2004 Gotham Award for Best Feature. 

The Miami native also worked on Horse Girl and Spin Me Round – his most recent film, which also featured his wife of four years. 

Baena directed and co-wrote the 2022 ‘dark comedy’ alongside actress Allison Brie.

The film first premiered at the South by Southwest festival in March 2022 before it was released by IFC Films in theaters and by AMC+ in August 2022.

Spin Me Round tells the story of a woman wins an all-expenses-paid trip to a company’s gorgeous ‘institute’ outside of Florence, and also the chance to meet the restaurant chain’s wealthy and charismatic owner, according to an IMDb report. 

The 2022 film boasts a star-studded cast including Brie, Debby Ryan, Zach Woods, Ego Nwodim and Ayden Mayeri. 

Baena also earned success through his television works, with his direction and production of the Showtime series Cinema Toast. He co-directed the product with his wife. 

Plaza has not publicly commented on the death of her husband. 

He is survived by his wife, his mother Barbra Stern, stepfather Roger Stern, his stepmother Michele Baena, his brother Brad Baena, and his step siblings Bianca Gabay and Jed Fluxman.
