Aswan Governor: Record numbers of Egyptians and foreign tourists followed the sun perpendicular phenomenon
Aswan Governor Ismail Kamal confirmed that the phenomenon of the sun perpendicular to the face of the statue of King Ramesses II in the tourist city of Abu Simbel, south of Aswan, witnessed today a large turnout and arrival, which has so far exceeded 4,000 people, both Egyptians and foreign tourists, including 1,400 tourists and visitors who came from Aswan Governorate, in addition to 2,600 tourists through land tourist groups from neighboring governorates, in light of the success of the state’s efforts in promoting the unique astronomical phenomenon that occurs twice during the year, one on October 22 and the other on February 22.

The governor explained – during his press statements today, Tuesday, on the sidelines of the celebration of the sun perpendicular phenomenon in the tourist city of Abu Simbel, south of Aswan – that the governorate, in coordination with the Security Directorate, as well as the ministries of tourism, antiquities, civil aviation, and culture, succeeded in organizing and securing the arrival of tourist groups and visitors to The city of Abu Simbel is easy and convenient, in addition to facilitating the entry and exit of viewers of the phenomenon of the sun perpendicular to the temple lobby, and placing a giant screen to enable all those present to watch this unique astronomical phenomenon.
< p>He pointed out that gates were also provided with entry and exit paths, in addition to golf carts to transport elderly visitors and those with special needs to witness the phenomenon of perpendicularity.
The governor indicated that there were Preparations are being made to celebrate the Sun Perpendiculars Festival this year in the city of Abu Simbel, where the General Authority for Cultural Palaces organized the events, launching the Aswan Festival of Culture and Arts in 10 cultural sites in the governorate in the period from October 17 to 22, with the participation of 9 Egyptian folk arts groups, namely Aswan, Luxor, Toshka Automatic, Mallawi, and Al-Wadi. Al-Jadeed, Al-Anfoushi, Al-Gharbiyya, Port Said, and Al-Tanoura Al-Tanura presented their artistic and folkloric sections, which contributed to creating an entertainment and artistic outlet for citizens in various parts of the governorate. It is one of its kind, as it is 33 centuries old, and it embodied the scientific progress achieved by the ancient Egyptians, especially in the sciences of astronomy and sculpture. The phenomenon occurs twice during the year, one on October 22 to celebrate the beginning of the harvest season, and the other on February 22 to celebrate the flood and agricultural season. The phenomenon appears through the perpendicularity of the sunbeam on the statue of King Ramesses II and the statues of the gods “Amun and Ra Hor” Let the golden rays of the sun penetrate the halls of the Temple of Ramesses II inside the Holy of Holies.
