Ashour and Haiba attend a workshop on… "Investing in higher education and scientific research"

Within the framework of implementing the Egyptian state’s policy aimed at facilitating investment procedures and revealing investment advantages in all sectors, Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, witnessed the activities of the workshop that was held under the title: " “Investment in higher education and scientific research,” in the presence of the secretaries of the Supreme Council of Universities, the Council of Private Universities, the Council of Private Universities, and a group of university presidents and ministry leaders.

 

Dr. Ayman Ashour confirmed that The higher education system is witnessing a major expansion thanks to the unprecedented support of the political leadership to accommodate the increasing demand for enrollment in university education, noting that population growth requires expansion in the establishment of various universities, pointing out the importance of universities providing modern inter-study programs that keep pace with the requirements of the local, regional and international labor market.

The Minister of Higher Education reviewed some investment models applied in prestigious international universities for use in Egyptian universities, reviewing the Ministry’s efforts to support investment efforts in higher education and scientific research.

Dr. Ayman Ashour pointed out To the importance of continuing to establish partnerships with prestigious foreign universities to achieve the maximum possible benefit for developing the educational and research system in Egypt, as well as cooperation and integration with various academic, research and industrial institutions in line with achieving the goals of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, gave a presentation via “video conference” technology, which included presenting the investment map in Egypt, as well as presenting the various investment systems for universities to benefit from, pointing out the importance of universities developing their resources and achieving optimal exploitation of the university’s assets and structure. Infrastructure, providing places and lands for rent at reasonable prices for investors, cooperating with public and private institutions, and civil society organizations, as well as protecting intellectual property for scientific research for faculty members and students. 

Hiba pointed out the importance of paying attention to providing specialized study programs. It is modern and keeps pace with the requirements of the labor market, and contributes to attracting students to join the university, training students practically in cooperation with various companies, and providing distinguished dual-degree study programs, in cooperation with major prestigious universities, as well as attracting international students to study in Egyptian universities, and supporting the implementation of applied scientific research, and financing. The Joint Research Center also welcomed the cooperation between the Authority and universities in projects of common interest between both sides.

Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, stressed the importance of achieving financial sustainability in higher education, noting that there is an increasing demand among students to enroll in modern specializations. Which meet the needs of future jobs, reviewing some successful models from international universities that work to develop students’ skills and prepare them for the labor market, pointing out the importance of the study programs offered by universities being consistent with achieving sustainable development goals, explaining the importance of integration between universities and productive and industrial institutions to raise the level of graduates. To be qualified to compete in the labor market.

Dr. Abdulaziz Qanswa, President of Alexandria University, reviewed the university’s experience in supporting investment efforts, noting the university’s interest in improving the quality of the educational and research process, and achieving the concept of sustainability, stability, and job satisfaction, explaining that Egyptian universities enjoy… With the presence of distinguished human cadres, in addition to providing modern study programs in cooperation with prestigious international universities, this contributed to attracting many international students to study at the university, in addition to raising the efficiency of infrastructure and information technology and supporting scientific research, as well as establishing branches of Alexandria University in South Sudan, Chad and Malaysia.

Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of Helwan University, presented the university’s experience in developing non-traditional sources of its financial resources, where the infrastructure and information technology were developed, electronic collection of tuition fees was made available, and the number of students coming to study at the university increased, pointing out that the university seeks to Developing its resources, developing curricula, scientific research, innovation, and community service, and partnering with various academic, research, and industrial institutions.

Dr. Mohamed Sami, President of Cairo University, reviewed the university’s experience in developing its resources by attracting international students to study at the university, and providing distinguished specialized programs, And investing in physical assets, creating study programs that meet the requirements of the labor market, and preserving intellectual property, explaining that the university is implementing many important projects, including the international branch of Cairo University, Kasr Al-Aini Hospitals, the new National Cancer Institute 500 500, Thabet Thabet Hospital, and the Medical Complex. For children).

The workshop witnessed the opening of discussions between university presidents and higher education leaders, and these discussions resulted in the presentation of positive, fruitful and supportive ideas for investment efforts in the educational and research system in Egypt in the future.
