A woman has been shot by police during a dramatic confrontation in Melbourne.
The 29-year-old woman was allegedly armed with a gun when she was stopped by officers on Police Road in Mulgrave, in the city’s southeast, at 5.30am on Friday.
Victoria Police said the woman had been inside a car that had been evading police before it was intercepted.
The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening upper body injuries, where she remains under police guard.
A 27-year-old Noble Park man was also arrested at the scene.
‘An investigation into the matter is underway with oversight by Professional Standards Command, as is standard practice when a police firearm is discharged,’ Victoria Police said in a statement.
