Millions of Americans who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks may have to wait for their regular payments once we reach the summer.
The 7.1 million people that qualify for the payments through disability or financial hardship usually expect their checks by the first of the month.
But the government only sends the payments on the first if it does not fall on a federal holiday or weekend, meaning the short month of June may not have any payments.
In May, SSI recipients will receive two checks, one on May 1 and the next on May 30, because June 1 falls on a weekend.
That means that those that receive SSI payments will not get a check in the calendar month of June.
The quirk is far from uncommon, with SSI beneficiaries previously receiving two checks in March.
Still, the payment schedule is important to note for millions of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck, timing grocery runs for the day when the money hits their accounts.
The quirk in the calendar falls again in August when SSI recipients will receive two checks, one on August 1 and another on August 29.
This means that beneficiaries will again have to wait an extra day after September to receive their checks, before again getting two in October.

It comes as Social Security has come under the scrutiny of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Earlier this month, Musk shared data claiming there are millions of dead Americans still marked as eligible for social security payments, however experts have claimed this was more of a glitch in the system and checks were not being sent en masse to the deceased.
The government as since sent out requests for many Social Security recipients to share additional information or documents or risk losing their benefits.
DOGE has attempted to access sensitive government data through his efforts to slash fraud and waste within the federal government, a move that irked many in the agency who feared for the safety of millions of Americans’ data.
Disagreements over allowing Musk into sensitive databases led the acting commissioner of the Social Security Administration, Michelle King, to quit earlier this month.
King – a career bureaucrat who has worked for the SSA since 1994 until being named to the top post this year – apparently clashed with Musk over his attempts to access sensitive government records.

‘What I know is that DOGE wanted access to SSA’s sensitive files — the same way they’re trying to do at Labor and Treasury — and the acting commissioner wouldn’t give it, and she was replaced,’ Nancy Altman, president of Social Security Works, told The Washington Post.
It was unclear which records DOGE was trying to access.
Trump has already nominated Frank Bisgnano to get the role permanently but he is still being vetted by the Senate. Leland Dudek, who runs the SSA’s anti-fraud division, has been appointed acting commissioner after King’s departure.
‘President Trump has nominated the highly qualified and talented Frank Bisignano to lead the Social Security Administration, and we expect him to be swiftly confirmed in the coming weeks,’ the White House told DailyMail.com in a statement.
‘In the meantime, the agency will be led by a career Social Security anti-fraud expert as the acting commissioner.’
Days before King resigned, veteran Democrat Congressman John Larson grew visibly enraged at a DOGE oversight hearing with the House Ways and Means Committee over Musk’s targeting of Social Security.
Larson claimed that the committee, led by Republican Chairman Jason Smith, was neglecting its responsibilities overseeing Social Security by allowing Donald Trump and Musk’s DOGE to reform the agency.
‘Where’s the independence of the committee!’ Larson screamed.
‘Where’s Elon Musk? I’m sure he’s a genius and is a very credible person because of the wealth he’s accumulated, but that does not put him above the law or the responsibility to come before this committee in this Congress,’ the 76-year-old yelled.
‘if he’s so great, if these plans and all the fraud and abuse that he found are so imminent, why isn’t he here explaining it?’
Larson charged that the Tesla CEO and DOGE leader is ‘out to privatize Social Security.’
‘He’s been on television the last couple of days talking exactly about Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and what he intends to do privatizing.’
