Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy officially began his duties yesterday, Wednesday, as official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, succeeding Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy, who was appointed ambassador to Hungary.
A few days ago, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a decision appointing Minister Plenipotentiary Ahmed Fahmy, presidential spokesman, as Egyptian ambassador to Hungary after the end of his term of service as spokesman for the presidency.
Ambassador Mohamed is considered El-Shenawy is the fifth spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi assumed his official duties as President of the Republic in June 2014, where he was preceded in the position by Ambassador Ihab Badawi, Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Ambassador Bassam Rady, and Ahmed Fahmy.
And he achieved. Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Cairo University, and a Master’s degree in International Law from the University of London.
He began his career as Deputy Attorney General, then In 1995, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he began his career in the Department of International Legal Affairs and Treaties. He then joined the Egyptian Embassy in The Hague, then the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs after his return to Cairo, then the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations in New York, then the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. After returning to Cairo again, he once again joined the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations in New York as part of the team representing Egypt during its membership in the Security Council.
In 2019, he served as a member of the team representing Egypt during its membership in the Security Council. The position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Minister’s Office Affairs, until he was appointed as Egypt’s Ambassador to Hungary, until he was chosen as the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic.
During that long professional diplomatic career, Ambassador El-Shenawy participated in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in The period from 2007 until 2019, and as a member of the Egyptian delegation in the negotiation process on demarcating the maritime borders between Egypt and Greece. He also participated in Egypt’s campaign to obtain Egypt’s non-permanent membership in the Security Council for the year 2019. 2016/2017. He was also responsible for Egypt’s presidency of the Counter-Terrorism Committee in the Security Council, and the expert representing Egypt in the United Nations General Assembly committees concerned with legal affairs, financial and administrative matters of the United Nations and United Nations peacekeeping and peacebuilding operations, and in negotiations related to the issue of expansion and reform of the Security Council. Throughout his career, he participated in many international meetings and as a member of a number of national committees.
