Hello and welcome to another year of celebrating Australian music excellence at the 2024 ARIA Awards. Although the night is about giving our musos the flowers they deserve for keeping us locked and loaded with new music, it’s also a yearly occasion where we get to sit at home and silently judge the outfits our favourite celebs rock up in.
The red carpet will kick off at 1:30pm AEST, while the actual ARIA Awards will begin from 5:00pm AEST. In case you were wondering, you can catch all the music award-goodness streamed live on Stan. Or, if you prefer, you can catch a broadcast on Nine shortly after.
One of the best things about the ARIA red carpet is that it is significantly more casual than other award ceremonies. Whether it’s the early kick-off time or the warm, sunny weather, we often see celebs with street-style-inspired looks that err on the more relaxed side rather than the glitz and glam of events like the Logies.
While we wait for the red carpet to start, I thought I’d take you all on a walk down memory lane at some of my favourite ARIA Music Award looks throughout history.
2024 ARIA Awards Red Carpet: Some classic looks throughout history to get you in the mood
Guy and Jules Sebastian
If there’s one thing I love, it’s when men mix up their suited fashions. This 2005 look from Guy Sebastion not only acts as a timestamp to the trends of the moment but is reminiscent of a key lime pie. I like that.
Nicki Webster
This 2004 look from “Strawberry Kisses” singer Nicki Webster walked so that Taylor Swift could run. I said what I said!!!!!!!!
David Hasselhoff
Anyone else remember super vividly the time David Hasselhoff attended the 2005 ARIA Awards? No? Just me? Whether you recall or not, I think his striped tuxedo coat moment deserves a spot on this list.
Bindi Irwin
Bindi Irwin may have only been 11 years old in 2009 but she slayed the ARIA red carpet. From the bold print to the colour sandwiching in the outfit (belt, shoes, duh), it’s a look that would’ve been praised to high heavens at the time if she was an adult… and potentially in heels.
Luke Steele
If there’s one thing you can count on from Empire Of The Sun’s Luke Steele, it’s turning out a slightly unhinged look! If this was 2024, I’d say that Tones And I wanted her hair back. However, this is 2009 and he clearly snatched this wig straight off the head of a Paparrazzi-era Lady Gaga.
This is just a teeny-tiny sample of the vibes you can expect from the 2024 ARIA Award red carpet. Don’t worry though, I’ll be back the moment the red carpet kicks off to keep you updated on the best, worst and borderline unhinged looks that our musos bring to the annual event.
See ya then!
