Alex Bregman signs huge $120m deal with the Boston Red Sox to end months of speculation over his future

Alex Bregman has signed a three-year, $120million deal with the Boston Red Sox to end months of speculation over where he would land.

The third baseman is a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, who had played his entire career with the Houston Astros.

He entered free agency at the end of the 2024 season and has now landed at Fenway Park, bringing to an end the longest saga of the winter.

As recently as Tuesday night, it was reported that the Blue Jays, Cubs, Lions and Astros were all still in for the 30-year-old.

Bregman was the most highly-coveted player still in free agency, and he has signed with the Red Sox just as spring training gets underway.

Jeff Passan reported more details about the contract late on Wednesday night, revealing that his $120m contract includes deferred money.

It was also claimed that the Red Sox offer of a $40m salary was more than $10m higher than other rivals had put on the table.

ESPN’s Jesse Rogers also reported that the deal includes two opt outs.

Last season, Bregman hit .260 with 26 home runs, 44 walks and 86 strikeouts in 145 games for Houston.
