Al-Azhar Mosque preacher: Time is a blessing and we will be held accountable for it unless we invest it well
The Friday sermon was delivered today at Al-Azhar Mosque by Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hodhud, professor of rhetoric and criticism and former president of Al-Azhar University, and its topic revolved around “the blessing of time.”
His Eminence Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hodhud said: God Blessed and Almighty created Man and the universe have been subjected to him, and it is a tribute to the human being who God gave him all this dignity on earth in order for him to be God’s successor on it, and it is evidence of the status of this creature before the Creator, although it is an honor, but in reality it is a trust and an obligation that requires the human being to strive to He would be eligible for this divine gift that made him preferred over all other creatures, but this matter was not in vain, but rather for a purpose, which is the worship of God as an integrated worship in all aspects of our lives. “And I did not create the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me.” His life, what did he spend it on? What did he do with it, what did he spend it on, and what did he spend it on? We all have to keep this question in mind because God will ask us about every moment He has given us. He gave us life and provided for us, and it is our everything, not for nothing but for an important purpose. Have each of us prepared ourselves to answer this question in a position of reckoning from which we will not move until we ask about it? Do not concern yourself in life with what others will ask about, because it is a waste of time in what is harmful and not beneficial. So our time wasted looking at others’ time.
Dr. Al-Hodhud stressed the importance of investing our time in what benefits us, because for wasting time we will be held accountable, and we will be asked about it and what we contributed to it, What acts of obedience have we done? Why did we fall short? Then we ask God for guidance so that not a single moment is lost from us. God set an example for us with our master Abraham, the Hebron, peace be upon him, when he called on his Lord, saying: “And give me a tongue of truthfulness in others,” for it is the greatest call. He also explained that the Holy Qur’an taught us to exploit and invest time in what is beneficial. For this reason, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, says: (There are two blessings that many people neglect: health and free time). God gave us this wealth: “health and free time.” But we worked to reduce it, not to increase it, adding that the societies that rose were the societies that knew the value of time and invested it to the fullest.
A member of the Islamic Research Academy stated that the scholars, the righteous, and the saints used to hold themselves accountable if they wasted a single moment without mentioning it. God. For these people, God favored them while they were asleep, if their hearts started with the remembrance of God, and they saw nothing but good because their hearts lived with God. This world is a farm for the Hereafter, and the Hereafter is profit, so you must plant good crops in this world to obtain its fruits in the Hereafter, and always keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of God.
His Eminence continued by saying: The scholars used to strive in knowledge with the utmost diligence after that. They did not waste time, and they used to fill their time with what they would be held accountable for before God. They all knew that no one would answer their question except them. Everyone will ask about every moment of life that God has given them. God Almighty created, in His being, what we control our time upon. God Almighty said: “It is He who made the sun a radiance and the moon a light, and ordained it as places of resting places, that you may know the number of years and the reckoning. What God has created.” This is only with the truth. He details the signs for a people who know. He created everything for the purpose of either providing the servant with sustenance or controlling time and investing it. Explaining that the Lord, the Almighty and Majestic, had sworn by the times: by the dawn and by the sun, and by the night and the forenoon, then he swore by a final surah that if the servant had performed it in his life, it would have been sufficient for him, which is Surah Al-Asr. And do righteous deeds, and enjoin each other to truth, and enjoin each other to patience.” The Noble Surah indicates that the one who succeeds in investing time, A few of God’s servants are those who believed and did righteous deeds, and advised each other to truth and patience. They are four things that make a person a winner, not a loser.
The mosque’s preacher concluded by saying: Life’s hardships are many, and we increase their severity. He called on everyone not to look at life with resentment and deficiency, but to look at it from the side of giving, and to communicate patience and truth. And we must do good deeds to escape the doom of loss. God created us for worship, guided us to help, and inspired the soul with its immorality and piety, and despite all this, only a few servants win. And if the servant makes a profit in this world, the profit will be in the Hereafter. God Almighty said: “Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, and is a believer – We will surely give him a good life, and We will give them their reward. For the best of what they used to do. He urged that we live with God in life, that our hearts be attached to Him, and that we look to Him for blessings and in everything until we obtain His pleasure and Paradise.
