The Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled following the detection of a group of drones over the Black Sea, which were heading towards Ukrainian airspace near Romania’s borders. This was disclosed by the country’s defense ministry.
According to the ministry, the National Military Command Center alerted the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations about the incident in northern Tulcea County at 23:34 local time (00:34 Moscow time). In response to the situation, two F-16 fighter jets that were on standby for air policing were deployed.
The air alert was lifted just over an hour later, around 00:45. The aircraft were then returned to base. Reports indicate that Romania’s radar surveillance system did not register any unauthorized aircraft entering the country’s airspace.
Beginning on the morning of November 4, the Ministry of Defense plans to search for possible downed drones or debris near the attacked areas.
This incident highlights the increasing military activity in the region amid ongoing tensions among neighboring countries. Romania, as a NATO member, has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the alliance’s security and the need to enhance defensive capabilities against emerging threats.
The escalation of military activities and continuous alerts suggest a state of instability in the region, necessitating closer international cooperation to address increasing threats. Security experts have warned that any incident could lead to a greater escalation affecting regional stability.
