Adornment and plastic surgery at the weekly meeting table of the Jurisprudence Forum at Al-Azhar Mosque
Al-Azhar Mosque held the weekly meeting of the Jurisprudence Forum (a contemporary vision) under the title “Adornment and Cosmetic Operations between Sharia and Medicine” This is in the presence of: Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Siddiq, Vice President of Al-Azhar University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Dr. Hussein Mujahid, Professor of Comparative Jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University, and the dialogue was moderated by His Eminence Dr. Hani Odeh, Director General of Al-Azhar Mosque.
At the beginning of the forum, Dr. Mahmoud Siddiq, Vice President of Al-Azhar University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, said: The Truth, Glory be to Him, commanded us to adorn ourselves because of the beautiful meanings and uplifting evidence they contain. “O children of Adam, take your adornment to every mosque.” And if we look at cosmetic surgeries, we find that they are permissible in matters, if the matter results from a deformity as a result of an accident, a birth defect, or a disease and requires complementary and improving operations, then the Sharia commands us to reform in this case. , while ensuring that the consequences are praiseworthy, but if the matter is to change God’s creation Glory be to Him, Unnecessarily, it is absolutely not permissible, because it involves deception and changing the creation of God Almighty, and presenting mankind as other than his true image, indicating that the dangers of these operations are great, the most dangerous of which is the state of man’s dissatisfaction with the image in which God Almighty created him, or the state he has reached. Due to aging.
The Vice President of Al-Azhar University explained that cosmetic surgeries cause addiction to this type of surgery because of the person’s desire to To always remain in an apparent state that makes him feel the illusion of satisfaction. In addition, cosmetics do not remain in the body for a long time, but rather they change and thus the human appearance is affected. They also afflict the person with deformities and undesirable side effects. Cosmetic surgeries are considered without medical necessity and controls. The legitimacy of a type of psychological obsession and passion, and what we observe from the tattooing procedures that some people follow, causes distortion in the human form, because the tattoo seeps into the deep layer of the skin, and it cannot be removed without surgical intervention, and the condition in which some young people are in… Following this cosmetic style is a state of disfigurement whose effects appear in the future, and they feel remorse as a result of the undesirable symptoms that accompany them as a result of this behavior.
A friend added that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, We are commanded and encouraged to adorn ourselves in everything, but with controls that are consistent with our human nature and pure nature, and about this Al-Rafi’i says in his book “The Revelation of the Pen” Speaking about the Mothers of the Believers, may God be pleased with them: The Mothers of the Believers say, O Messenger, “The daughters of Chosroes and Caesar are in jewels and garments, and we are as you see of want and poverty.” Then the words of the Truth, Glory be to Him, the Most High, were revealed: O Prophet, say to your wives, “If you desire the life of this world and its adornments, then come, I will give you pleasure and give you a pleasant rest.” And if you desire God and His Messenger and the Hereafter, for God has prepared “There will be a great reward for those who do good deeds among you.” Mrs. Aisha replied, “Am I choosing against you and in God? Rather, I choose God and His Messenger.” Then all the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, followed her. This is not incompatible with adornment, but with controls that do not conflict with Sharia law, which is evident from the permissibility of a wife adornment for her husband, or from taking adornment while going to prayer.
The Vice President of the University stated Al-Azhar states that excessive cosmetic surgery and repeating it more than once causes many medical harms, which may lead to death in some cases, which is what appears with some liposuction operations. Also, the materials used in cosmetic surgeries are not sustainable and thus cause the person to develop deformities that are difficult to get rid of afterwards. We should not respond to our whims in such operations, because the symptoms that appear on the human body and its appearance due to aging are natural things, and the person should not He intervenes to remove them: “It is God who created you from weakness, then made after weakness strength, then made after strength weakness and gray hair. He creates whatever He wills, and He is the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful.” In addition, cosmetics contain bacterial substances. Excessive consumption of it results in harm, and we must all respect the nature that God created people with and not interfere in trying to change it. For his part, Prof. Dr. Hussein Mujahid, Professor of Comparative Jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University, confirmed that Islam is a religion that encourages, desires, and calls for beauty, so we find that one of the most beautiful names of God is “the Beautiful,” and as stated in Sahih Imam Muslim, that a man came to the Prophet The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, “He who has an atom’s weight of arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise.” The man said, “O Messenger of God, a man likes his clothes to be nice and his shoes to be nice.” The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, “God is beautiful and loves beauty.” The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, also desired beauty in word, behavior, and deed, and the books of the Prophet’s biography are full of examples in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, urged Beauty, including: When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was sitting in the mosque, he saw a man with a disheveled head and beard, so the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, pointed at him, as if ordering him to He corrects and grooms his appearance, so the man understood the signal of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and ran out of the mosque to carry out the signal of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him. Then he returned to the mosque after he had a good appearance. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was pleased and said, “Isn’t this better than one of you coming with a disheveled head and beard as if he were a devil?”, explaining. The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, used to apply perfume and encourage perfume and accept it if it was given to him as a gift, just as he used to put oil in He used to adorn his hair, and he used to say, “Women and perfume have become beloved to me from your world, and I have made the comfort of my eye in prayer.”
The professor of comparative jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University added that the jurists They believe that the basic principle regarding adornment is that it is desirable. Ibn Abdin says in his commentary, “It is desirable to beautify yourself, but God permits adornment.” Inferring " Say, “Who has forbidden the adornment of God which He has revealed to His servants?” The scholars say that beauty and adornment are subject to the five obligatory rulings, meaning that beautification and adornment may be obligatory in the sense that whoever neglects it is sinful and whoever does it is rewarded, including telling the truth. “Take your adornment at every mosque.” Another obligatory adornment is that a wife adorns herself for her husband, and the evidence for that is “what was narrated on the authority of Bakra bint Uqba that she asked Aisha, may God be pleased with her, about shaving, and she said: “If you have a husband and you are able to remove your eyeballs and make them better than what they are in.” “So do,” just as Islam commands the man to prepare himself for his wife, “and they have the same Which is on them" Therefore, Ibn Abbas says, “I adorn myself for my wife as she adorns me,” and among the permissible adornments are also the Sunnahs of Fitrah. Trimming the moustache, growing the beard, using the siwak, sniffing with water, cutting the nails, washing the knuckles, plucking the armpits, shaving the pubic hair, drinking water, and wearing gold for non-men. Exaggeration in permissible adornment is disliked, but as for forbidden adornment that God Almighty has forbidden, “gold and silk for men, and adornment that constitutes disobedience to God Almighty.” The professor of jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University explained that there is a standard for adornment and beautification established by scholars, which is: “Everything that involves a return to the original and does not cause harm is permissible, and whatever involves fraud and changing God’s creation and causes harm falls within the scope of what is forbidden,” and Islam is not against cosmetic surgery. Which restores the original and does not result in harm, such as those that remove deformities, birth defects, or symptoms resulting from a worldly accident. Therefore, we must measure cosmetic operations against this criterion that scientists have established to know the extent of its solution. It was forbidden.
Dr. Hani Odeh, Director General of Al-Azhar Mosque, concluded the forum by saying: The wise Sharia has commanded us to beautify and embrace the meanings of beauty in everything, according to specific controls, but at the same time We are commanded to stay away from the desires that push a person to exaggerate in these matters, to the point of disobedience, especially at this time in which temptations have spread, and the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, enjoined wearing perfume and adornment while wearing clothes. Going to mosques, and looking at the entire universe, we find that it is all based on beauty, but with the controls “We have adorned the lowest heaven with the adornment of the stars,” which is evidence from the Holy Qur’an that the entire universe is based on the meanings of beauty, but the beauty that God Almighty created, and it is upon us We must stay away from violations that some people think are adornments, but the truth is an attempt to change the creation of God Almighty, which is contrary. Young people must know that true beauty is in the image in which God created them. Glory be to Him, the Almighty, and specialists should not perform such operations except for a necessity that requires it. Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, under the patronage of His Eminence the Grand Imam and under the guidance of His Eminence Dr. Muhammad Al-Duwaini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and the Jurisprudence Forum aims to discuss contemporary jurisprudential issues that… confronting Islamic societies, and working to find solutions according to Sharia.
