Achievements of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research…the most prominent weekly activities and successes

The General Administration of the Media Office and the official spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research issued a report reviewing the most prominent activities and achievements of the Ministry during the past week, as the report reflects the efforts made to enhance higher education and scientific research in Egypt and support societal and development issues.

Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, chaired the first meeting of the Board of Trustees of the “Alliance and Development” presidential initiative, in the presence of board members including academics, industrialists, and representatives of government agencies. Public figures and ministry leaders. The Minister affirmed the Ministry’s intention to internationalize the initiative by expanding international partnerships with countries such as the United States and France, and benefiting from its expertise in linking education with industry, in addition to diversifying partnerships with foreign universities to achieve the maximum benefit from the alliance’s projects.

On the sidelines of his participation in the UNESCO 2024 Forum for Higher Education in Africa, Dr. Ayman Ashour met with Mr. Julius Mele Kibut, Chairman of the Education Committee of the Kenyan House of Representatives, And his deputy. During the meeting, ways of joint cooperation and a review of the higher education system in both countries were discussed.

 

Dr. Ayman Ashour received Dr. Zambri Abdul Qadeer, Minister of Higher Education in Malaysia, and Ambassador Mohamed Trade. Sufyan, the Malaysian ambassador to Cairo, and their accompanying delegation. During the meeting, ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and Malaysia in the fields of higher education and scientific research were discussed, including increasing the number of Malaysian students in Egyptian universities and enhancing cooperation between universities and research centers in the two countries.

 

The Minister of Higher Education witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Cairo University and the “Ovarian Cancer Cell Laboratory” University of Oxford, Germfrey Company, and Caring Cross Health Foundation.

The agreement aims to support the university hospital system, especially in the field of oncology treatment, through partnerships with prestigious international institutions, and expanding the infrastructure of university hospitals specialized in oncology treatment.

 

48 Egyptian universities were included in the results of the Arab classification of universities for the year 2024, as Egypt topped the Arab countries in terms of the number of universities listed, with an increase of 20 universities compared to last year, which reflects the continuous development in the higher education system.

 

Dr. Ayman Ashour received the receipt document for the first shipment of the drug “Trikafta”. To treat cystic fibrosis patients, in cooperation between the Ministries of Health, Population, and Higher Education. The drug will be allocated for use in the Cystic Fibrosis Treatment Center at Ain Shams University Hospitals, as part of the state’s efforts to support patients through the initiative for early detection of genetic diseases.

 

During the regular meeting of the Supreme Council For technological education, it has been approved to start new study programs at Beni Suef Technological University starting from the second semester of the academic year 2024/2025. The programs include: refrigeration and air conditioning technology, industrial process control technology, electric vehicle technology, and computer and information technology and artificial intelligence.

 

The Minister met with Mr. Helmy Abu Al-Aish, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development and CEO of SEKEM Group. The Minister praised the cooperation between the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, the National Research Center and Atos Pharma Company for preparing raw medicinal silymarin from the Egyptian camel thistle plant, which is a product used in medicines for the treatment and prevention of liver diseases.

 

Dr. Ayman Ashour met with the team of the “Tamkeen” initiative, which aims to support students with special needs.

The Minister stressed the Ministry’s keenness to develop the university education system to achieve a comprehensive educational environment that guarantees Equal opportunities for all students, indicating the success of the first phase of the initiative in achieving its goals.
