Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority continues to receive applications for participation in “Prince of Poets” until August 15
Abu Dhabi, 6th August, 2018 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority (ADHA) has announced that poets are continuing to register to compete in the eleventh season of the “Prince of Poets” programme via the programme’s official website “princeofpoets.ae”.
The Authority explained that applications will continue to be accepted until August 15, after which the nomination applications will be sorted and the poems will be evaluated by the judging committee, in preparation for the poets’ interview stage to select 20 qualifiers for the live episodes at Al Raha Beach Theater in Abu Dhabi to compete for the title of “Prince of Poets.”
Last season, the competition witnessed the first female poet winning the title in the history of its seasons, which were dominated by male poets in the past years.
The Prince of Poets programme highlights the role of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in strengthening poetic interaction and communication between peoples and cultures, and enhancing the Arab cultural movement, as it is a platform that brings together the people of the Arabic language.
The programme also supports efforts to promote classical poetry and the Arabic language, highlight belonging to Arab culture and revive its poetic heritage by discovering and supporting new poetic talents.
The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority revealed that those wishing to participate in the “Prince of Poets” programme can view the detailed registration conditions on the website of each programme, explaining that the most important registration conditions are that the applicant must be between 18 and 45 years old, and must send a classical poem with no more than 20 verses and no less than 8 verses, or a free verse poem with no more than two stanzas, and the number of lines in each stanza must not exceed 15 lines and no less than 10 lines.
The Authority praised the poets’ interest in registering to participate in the programme, as the official website has witnessed continuous registration activity since the registration period opened in mid-July.
The winner of the first place in the program will receive the title of “Prince of Poets”, a cloak of poetry, a ring symbolizing the title of the emirate, and a cash prize of one million dirhams. The winner of the second place will receive a prize of 500 thousand dirhams, the winner of the third place will receive a prize of 300 thousand dirhams, the winner of the fourth place will receive a prize of 200 thousand dirhams, and the winner of the fifth place will receive a prize of 100 thousand dirhams.
