ABC Melbourne scores worst-ever result; Kyle and Jackie fail to move the dial

There was also a disappointing start to a new era at the ABC’s Radio National, with its highly anticipated and revamped Breakfast show – led by Sally Sara and a team of journalists – dropping 0.7 points back to a 1.8 per cent share. The station fell to a total audience share of just 1.2 per cent in Melbourne, halving its result from the previous survey.

The first ratings survey for the year captured a six-week period between January 19 to March 1. While it gives an early indication of audience listening, radio habits are usually measured over a longer period of time.

In talkback radio, another big winner from the first survey was Nine-owned AM station 3AW, which came out with a 16.8 per cent share, up 3.2 percentage points, while the station’s breakfast duo Russel Howcroft and Ross Stevenson delivered a 20.6 per cent share, up 1.3 points.

In the talkback Mornings battle, ABC Melbourne’s Raf Epstein fell to a 4.5 per cent share, while 3AW’s Tom Elliot, a year into the job, delivered a 19.2 per cent share, up from 15.3 per cent.
