For the first time since 2011, a large part of Aleppo (Syria) is in the hands of the Islamists. In the streets of the country’s second city, the flags of the Syrian regime are trampled and burned, replaced by those of a triumphant opposition in a concert of machine gun fire. The rebels also want to improve their image by distributing free bread in the streets.

However, some civilians fear what happens next, like a resident of Aleppo who was contacted by a France Télévisions team and who wishes to remain anonymous. “If the Syrian army wants to dislodge them, it will be carnage. On the other hand, the other scenario is that the Syrian army abandons Aleppo and therefore we remain under the yoke of the Islamists”he said, Sunday December 1. The rebels do not intend to stop there: “Damascus (Syria)we’re coming”they sing. After the capture of Aleppo, their advance was rapid on the road leading to the capital.
