Over the last few months, Ariana Grande has been everywhere with her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, holding space and promoting their roles in the beloved Broadway musical adaptation. But a resurfaced 2015 video is making fans do a serious double-take.
The clip, originally posted by Vanity Fair, showed Ariana during her Scream Queens days, reacting to famous scary movie screams.
After watching a Psycho scene, her co-star Abigail Breslin started stumbling through a description: “That was a very smooth, a smoother and a lower… I think it was like… What I liked about it was it kind of came like… She was like, ‘Oh. Yeah. This is happening now’.”
Honestly, me when I have to explain anything to anyone IRL.
Ariana’s response? A read that would have had me embarrassed for years. She blinked dramatically, squinted her eyes, and then delivered a killer line: “I want to see what you just said written on paper.”

According to Daily Mail, a TikToker Aaron shared this moment making it go quickly viral. The caption? “How the old Ariana would have reacted to the ‘holding space’ interviewer” – referencing her recent press tour with Cynthia.
The internet immediately erupted with reactions:
“The switch-up is INSANE,” one user wrote. Are we really that surprised though seeing that she just switched back to being white last year?
Some fans have theories about her transformation. “I think this is the real Ariana. I think the one we’re getting in these Wicked interviews is meant to be as non-controversial as possible,” one comment suggested.
“Could it be that she’s grown up and matured?” proposed another commenter.
“People seem to forget the concept of growing up? She’s literally 31-years-old of course she isn’t acting like this nowadays,” another pointed out.
It’s worth noting that there have been many rumours that Abigail and Ariana did not get along during the filming of Scream Queens, which may explain the added (iconic) sass.
Also side note, this interview truly is gold because at 0:59 Ariana literally drops an easter eggs for her hit single “Thank U Next”, which would come three years after the YouTube video.
Ariana and Cynthia have been traveling globally, promoting Wicked, which hit theaters on November 22. Their press tour has been notable not just for their performances, but for their emotional interviews. No seriously the girls have been crying non-stop, I hope they get a Kleenex sponsorship ASAP.
Cynthia recently addressed the emotional press tour in an interview with Heart Breakfast, “I think it’s because people have come in with such energy and they come in, their responses, their emotional responses come into the room with us,” Cynthia said.
“It’s the first time we’ve been able to talk about it, so we’re both reliving and rehashing all the things we’ve been through and the journey we’ve been on. We can’t help it, we get very emotional about it.”
Wait, now I’m crying.
Anywho, I’m just glad that Ariana has found someone that she loves to do interviews with and I cannot wait to go through all the tissues once again in Wicked: Part Two.
