This came during the opening speech of the first environmental scientific conference of the Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, entitled “Future Visions for Environmental Sustainability,” which was held today, Monday, in the university’s grand celebration hall.

The conference comes under the patronage of Dr. Nasser Saeed Mandour, President of Suez Canal University. Under the general supervision of Dr. Muhammad Saad Zaghloul, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Dina Abu Al-Maati, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs.

The conference was witnessed by Dr. Mohamed Abdel Naeem, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs. Under the supervision of Dr. Maha Farid Suleiman, Dean of the College of Science, and President of the Conference, and under the executive supervision of Dr. Raafat Muhammad Afifi, Vice President of the College of Science for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Vice President and Rapporteur of the Conference, and Dr. Sherine Muhammad Al-Banna, Vice President of the College of Science for Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs and Vice President of the Conference, and Dr. Marwa Ibrahim. Dr. Nasser Mandour continued his speech, praising the complete coordination between the sectors of community service and environmental development, and the graduate studies and research sector, calling for the necessity of holding a scientific conference at the university level on environmental sciences and solving community problems, stressing that caring for the environment is no longer a luxury, but rather an inevitability, especially in light of the problems. The rising environmental trend, hoping that research in scientific conferences at the university will focus on the effects of climate change and environmental pollution on the Canal Region and Sinai, hoping for the conference to achieve effective results that contribute to solutions. Dr. Nasser Mandour stressed the importance of exchanging ideas and experiences during scientific sessions to achieve the desired goals, expressing their aspiration to formulate a future environmental vision that reflects positively on society and the environment.

While Dr. Mohamed Saad Zaghloul stressed that the conference aims to discuss current environmental challenges and explore innovative solutions to enhance environmental sustainability in Egypt and the region, noting that the conference represents an important opportunity for joint cooperation in order to confront increasing environmental challenges, such as loss of biological diversity and climate change. They pointed out the importance of adopting effective strategies that contribute to preserving natural resources and promoting sustainable environmental development.

He pointed out that the conference addresses a number of main topics, most notably the diversity of marine life in the Red Sea: the current situation and challenges to sustainable use, green corridors and the role of the Suez Canal: in promoting the blue economy and sustainable development goals, immunity in the era of climate change: the impact of environmental changes on The health of ecosystems and humans, climate change between facts and illusions: towards sustainable development of the coast and the Nile Delta, building coral reefs: hope in the Egyptian Red Sea, the role of waste treatment: in achieving sustainable development goals according to Egypt’s Vision 2030.

While Dr. Dina Abu Al-Maati indicated that the conference seeks to create a scientific platform to discuss sustainability issues and exchange ideas and experiences between researchers and decision-makers in this vital field, stressing the pivotal role of this conference in achieving environmental sustainability, pointing to the importance of encouraging partnerships and cooperation between the public and private sectors. , academic institutions, and civil society to achieve sustainability goals, adding that the conference embodies the university’s commitment to providing scientific solutions to environmental challenges, and supporting cooperation between concerned parties, which provides the opportunity to create a constructive dialogue on how to achieve a balance between environmental and economic development.

Dr. Raafat Afifi, during his speech at the first environmental scientific conference at the Faculty of Science at Suez Canal University, stressed the importance of scientific research as a basic pillar for dealing with increasing environmental challenges, pointing out that knowledge is the best means to bring about positive change.

He explained that the conference aims to enhance cooperation between researchers and various institutions to provide innovative solutions that contribute to supporting environmental sustainability, with the need to transform the recommendations resulting from its sessions into concrete practical steps.

While Dr. Sherine Al-Banna pointed out the role of researchers as they are future leaders and decision makers, hence the importance of encouraging them to participate and engage in such activities, pointing out that 600 researchers are participating in the conference, presenting 30 scientific research with the participation of the departments of marine sciences, chemistry, plants, animals, geology, etc. In addition to the participation of the Department of Marine Sciences at Port Said University, the Department of Marine Sciences at Omar Al-Mukhtar University, and the Department of Biotechnology in Jeddah.
