Fans across the EFL have been left fuming after matches were called off hours before kick-off amid Storm Bert. 

The Met Office has issued snow, ice, wind and rain warnings across the UK and said the low pressure system would be a ‘multi-hazard event’ following a cold snap.

Fans across the country started their journeys to stadiums when announcements of cancellations were made. 

Blackburn were set to host Portsmouth at 3pm, with Portsmouth supporters beginning a 270-mile journey until the game was called off at 11:15am. 

‘Championship teams can’t uphold pitches in the modern era??? Genuinely deduct Blackburn points,’ one fan fumed on X. 

Another Pompey fan said: ‘Disgrace for travelling fans. Why not do this at 8/9am? Wasn’t going to change in that short space of time.

‘If a championship club cant get a game on they should be fined. How have you seen the forcast and not thought “maybe we should cover the pitch”,’ a third posted on X. 

A fourth Portsmouth fan added: ‘Travelled up yesterday. Cost of hotel room, fuel and ticket down the drain. Championship club btw’.  

The League Two clash between Bradford and Accrington was the first match to be called off on Saturday morning. 

The Bradford pitch underwent an inspection at 10:30 before the game was officially called of just 20 minutes later. 

Meanwhile, the League Two game between Fleetwood and MK Dons also fell victim to Storm Bertt. 

Halifax Town vs Sutton United and Rochdale vs Oldham Athletic in the National League have also been called off due to poor conditions.
