Manchester United themed cafe – just yards from Old Trafford – is given zero-star hygiene rating after RAT infestation and forced to temporarily close down
A Manchester United themed cafe has been handed a zero-star hygiene rating after being found of having a rat infestation.
The United Cafe – which is decorated with the Red Devils’ colours and located just a few hundred yards away from Old Trafford – is popular among match-going fans.
According to The Metro, the cafe voluntarily closed after discovering the pests, before a hygiene inspector ordered them to carry out a deep clean and undertake proofing work.
Along with the United Cafe, a next-door venue named Legends also closed down voluntarily at the time due to the infestation.
According to a report by Trafford Council, a full inspection was undertaken in August, which involved examining the cafe’s cleaning procedures and hazard analysis.
Under a list of key points, the inspector wrote: ‘Visit due to issues with rat activity in the area. Both premises closed voluntarily due to rat infestation.’

According to the council’s report, work to remediate the pest infestation had to be carried out before the venues reopened.
An ‘urgent improvement’ mark is shown against the management of food safety at United Cafe.
Match going fans could stop for fish and chips, full English breakfasts and more at the United Cafe, prior to it’s temporary closing due to the infestation.
On review platform TripAdvisor, the business has a 3.5 rating and a number of positive comments.
‘Great chips and curry sauce, fresh chips even on a Monday lunchtime,’ one user wrote.
‘A group of us needed somewhere to meet before the match and this proved perfect. Not only is it what looks a really good takeaway restaurant it served as a bar early in the evening which was perfect,’ another said.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the council said: ‘Trafford Council environmental health officers gave the United Cafe/Legends a zero food hygiene rating following a routine visit.
‘We are now working closely with the business to ensure it complies with the rating and carries out the necessary improvements.’
New United boss Ruben Amorim is preparing to take charge of his first game at the club
While the businesses around Old Trafford deal with their own issues, new United boss Ruben Amorim will be hopeful that won’t be the case for his side.
Amorim reportedly told United stars why his predecessors failed to live up to Sir Alex Ferguson’s level of success as he seeks to turn around their fortunes.
According to The Sun, Amorim informed the Man United squad that previous bosses had lived in the shadow of Ferguson.
The legendary Man United boss had led the club to 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, and two Champions League titles.
