Major General Abdel Fattah Siraj, Governor of Sohag, held a meeting with a number of members of the Al-Tali bloc on Shandawil Island and Al-Harir bloc in Akhmim, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hadi, Deputy Governor and Director of the Local Implementation Unit in the governorate, in order to identify their demands and work to meet them, and to overcome the obstacles they face in a way that enhances support for… Owners of historical heritage crafts.
The governor emphasized the great support provided by the state to heritage crafts, in addition to support from many international institutions, noting that the tally industry is one of the most important heritage crafts that characterizes Sohag Governorate and has a long history.
The meeting discussed the most prominent demands and problems facing the owners of the Talli and silk crafts, and reviewed a number of proposals and urgent solutions to develop these crafts. Among the most prominent demands that were put forward was providing means of transportation to participate in foreign exhibitions, and providing the necessary raw materials such as “Talli thread,” which It is imported from India, in addition to the need to provide headquarters to market and display talli products to the public.
Within the framework of the governorate’s support for this industry, the governor directed a package of urgent measures, including starting the procedures for allocating a plot of land on Shandawil Island to establish the “Talli Village,” in order to preserve the nature and privacy of the craft, and transform it into a tourist attraction that attracts visitors of different nationalities, within the vision of developing Sohag on the tourist map, and recommending the formation of a board of directors headed by an economist and representatives from the pioneering women of the hill industry on Shandawil Island, to take care of the bloc issues and develop appropriate solutions to any problems they may face.
The governor pointed out that the governorate’s plan also includes establishing a special fund to support the owners of the Talli craft and meet their requirements, thus contributing to enhancing the status of this historical craft at the local and international levels.
This meeting comes within the framework of Sohag Governorate’s efforts to support and develop handicraft industries in line with the state’s plan to achieve sustainable development in this important sector.
