World Urban Forum: The Minister of Planning praises the close partnership with the United Nations Development Programme

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, discussed with Haoliang Xiu, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Associate Director of the United Nations Development Programme, ways of joint cooperation, praising the close partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, especially at the level of launching the integrated national strategy. This came during the Minister’s meeting, today, Wednesday, on the sidelines of the activities of her participation in the World Urban Forum (WUF12). ) hosted by Cairo during the period from November 4 to 8, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, under the slogan “Everything starts locally… let’s work together for sustainable cities and communities,” in the presence of Alessandro Fracasetti, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Development Program in Egypt.< /p>

 

She explained that Egypt’s hosting of the World Urban Forum, which is being held for the first time on the African continent in 20 years, reflects its active role on the international scene, to support sustainable development efforts, noting that the meeting With the Director of the United Nations Development Program in New York, he embodied the close partnership with Egypt, to support solutions to meet the challenges of sustainable development.

 

She noted the efforts made by the state to support sustainable economic development in Egypt due to the diversity The Egyptian economy, the multiplicity of productive sectors, and the development and enhancement of human capital… pointing to the 2025 Human Development Report and the importance of focusing on qualitative development, pointing to the aspiration for the upcoming cooperation between the Egyptian government and the United Nations Development Program regarding the report.

The Ministry stated that the two sides discussed joint efforts to support and empower the private sector, noting the cooperation between the Ministry, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Istanbul International Center for the Private Sector in Development of the United Nations Development Programme, on developing maps for sustainable development goals investors to enhance investments. Influencing areas of major investment opportunities. 

 

She explained that 6 priority sectors have been identified, including infrastructure, renewable resources and alternative energy, food and beverages (agriculture), transportation, and care. Health, education, as well as supporting South-South cooperation mechanisms… stressing Egypt’s commitment to localizing sustainable development goals at the local level, noting the launch of the first version of the localization reports for sustainable development goals at the level of the 27 governorates, which was launched by the Ministry of Planning in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme. It is the first of its kind in Egypt. 

 

She pointed to the local voluntary reports, of which Egypt succeeded for the first time in issuing three of them for the governorates of Beheira, Fayoum, and Port Said, through the support that It was presented by the Ministry in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program for the three governorates in preparing the first local voluntary reports.

 

For his part, Haoliang Xiu, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Associate Director of the United Nations Programme, said “The Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and the United Nations Development Programme, play a vital role in promoting the sustainable development agenda in Egypt.” We participate in the World Urban Forum in Cairo to focus on addressing urban sustainability challenges while supporting Egypt’s priorities in key sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and others. 

 

He added that the United Nations Development Program is committed to aligning its efforts with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the sustainable development agenda.
