Cairo University hosts a scientific forum to discuss… "Health crises in Africa from an anthropological perspective”
Within the framework of supporting scientific research and interacting with the health challenges facing the African continent, the Department of Anthropology at the Faculty of Graduate African Studies at Cairo University is organizing the "Second Forum for Young Anthropological Researchers" Under the title “Anthropological Perspectives on Health Crises on the African Continent, between Effects and Response.” Sami Abdel Sadiq, President of Cairo University. The organization of the forum is supervised by Dr. Attia Tantawi, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate African Studies at Cairo University, and he is assisted as Vice-Presidents of the Forum by Dr. Amira Shawqi, Vice President of the College for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Zakaria Abdel Majeed, Vice President of the College for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. While Dr. Mohamed is in charge of Abdul Radi Mahmoud, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, serves as the Forum’s rapporteur, and Dr. Muhammad Jalal Hussein, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, serves as the Secretary. The forum focuses on researching and analyzing the health crises facing Africa, across five main axes: Starting from the history of health crises on the continent through to current and future challenges. The first axis discusses historical and modern health crises, while the second axis covers factors that exacerbate crises, such as poverty and lack of funding. The third axis deals with the responses of the local and international communities, while the fourth axis provides forward-looking visions of techniques and strategies for dealing with future health crises. As for the fifth axis, it reviews ethnographic films that highlight the impact of health crises on African individuals and communities. The forum aims to shed light on the contributions of anthropology to addressing health issues in Africa, provide a platform for exchanging experiences between researchers, and review successful experiences and challenges facing the health sector on the continent. It also seeks to develop strategies to improve public health and confront health crises that threaten development in Africa. The forum will be held in the Great Conference Hall at the Faculty of Graduate African Studies at Cairo University, with the participation of researchers and specialists from various fields.
