Candice Warner has addressed speculation about her husband’s return to Australia’s Test team, declaring it is ‘not happening’ because he
It follows David Warner boldly stating he would face India if needed in the five-Test series, which starts next month in Perth.
But the bombshell development was news to his wife, with the former champion Ironwoman telling The Back Page viewers on Fox Sports that Warner’s sense of humour was more than likely on full display.
‘I just got him home a little bit more and I’m thinking, what the hell? What’s going on now?’ she told the panel.
‘He’s very passionate about playing for Australia and I think if George Bailey, the selector, or Andrew McDonald, the coach, picked up the phone and said “we need you”, he would jump at it.
‘[But] it’s definitely not going to happen.
‘If he was to have gone down that path to play again, he would have had to have done it just like everyone else. Play Sheffield Shield and everything like that.
‘But it’s not happening. End of discussion.’

Perhaps sensing that Warner was purely looking to generate headlines, the likes of skipper Pat Cummins and former opening partner Chris Rogers laughed off any talk of a return.
Warner, 38, will instead focus on the Big Bash with the Sydney Thunder this summer, where he is tipped to be captain.
It follows his lifetime leadership ban from Cricket Australia being recently lifted.
An independent panel concluded Warner was ‘sufficiently remorseful’ for his involvement in the sandpaper scandal of 2018 – and he is now free to skipper the Thunder and be in the running for future coaching roles.
‘I think it’s very appropriate that it’s been lifted. He’s at ease with the ban being lifted,’ Candice said.
‘Now it’s about moving forward. He’s playing with the Sydney Thunder for the next two years so he’s looking forward to that.
‘He’s [also] been captaining sides all around the world….whether it be in Dubai or in India and Canada and all these other places.
‘So, he has leadership qualities….I’m sure if he gets tapped on the shoulder and asked ‘would you like to captain the Thunder?’, he would love that.’
