The Minister of Local Development and the Governor of Cairo inaugurated Al-Fayrouz Park in Mokattam
The Minister of Local Development, Dr. Manal Awad, and the Governor of Cairo, Dr. Ibrahim Saber, opened today, Sunday, Al-Fayrouz Park in Mokattam, which is built on an area of 7 thousand square meters and is ready to receive approximately 500 citizens daily and is equipped with restrooms, pergolas, benches, and food outlets. It has a children’s area built on an area of 300 square meters.
After the opening, the Minister of Local Development and the Governor of Cairo made an inspection tour inside the park to learn about the preparation of ponds, cosmetic shapes, walkers, pergolas, and some of the plants and seedlings inside the park, in addition to the children’s play area and wooden benches. After that, the Minister and the Governor opened the work of developing the Heliopolis Plant Nursery in the Nozha neighborhood, which is located on an area of 3 acres and serves the neighborhoods of the Eastern Region, and contains 83 varieties of trees, shrubs, and medicinal, aromatic, and herbal plants. And cactuses, and shade plants, produce about 100,000 seedlings annually and are sold at reduced prices to citizens.
For her part, the Minister of Local Development confirmed that the government seeks to increase green spaces within the framework of its priorities for dealing with the issue of climate change, preserving the environment, and increasing The per capita share of the green area in all governorates…noting that the Ministry is following up with the rest of the relevant ministries on the implementation of the presidential initiative to plant 100 million trees, as the Ministry of Local Development contributes by planting 80 million trees over a period of 7 years from 2022/2029.
She praised the efforts of Cairo Governorate in providing a clean and healthy environment and increasing the capital’s citizens’ share of green spaces. She also appreciated the governorate’s efforts in establishing public parks to be an outlet for residents of residential neighborhoods of various levels and social classes. In turn, the Governor of Cairo stressed that the opening of the park and nursery comes within the framework of the efforts made by Cairo Governorate to increase the green area in it to improve air quality, reduce the risks of global warming and climate change, increase the per capita share of the green area, and improve the quality of life provided to citizens. p>
He pointed out that the governorate has about 27 nurseries in a number of neighborhoods in the capital and seeks to establish 38 nurseries in all neighborhoods of the governorate so that there will be a nursery in every neighborhood, provided that the trees in it are sold at nominal prices to citizens so that they can plant and care for them.
