World Series Yankees vs Dodgers Game 1 score and live updates: Gerrit Cole, Jack Flaherty dominating early
Question: The Yankees have really made Jack Flaherty work. He was at 46 pitches with no outs in the third (then, just like that, out of the inning at 51 pitches). If that happens with your ace, do you change the game plan to get quick outs? Or just say, hey, give us as many outs as you can, then turn the bullpen loose?
Jameson Taillon: In the regular season I would try to get my pitch count in line. In the World Series I would just keep being fine and know that my ’pen is backing me up.
Tucker Barnhart: I think you have to evaluate your level of execution before switching any plan. If you’re not executing then it’s hard to know if your plan is working. If you’re executing and your plan isn’t working then pivoting is certainly necessary.
Taillon: That answer right there is why you trust a veteran catcher.
