Minister of Health: Raising awareness of healthy dietary patterns is important to prevent malnutrition diseases
The Ministry of Health and Population held a scientific session entitled “Nutrition and Health” on the sidelines of the activities of the second edition of the World Conference on Population, Health and Human Development, in the presence of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population.
The Deputy Prime Minister praised the topic of the session, the importance of raising awareness about healthy nutrition in maintaining the general health of society and preventing malnutrition diseases such as obesity and stunting. He said that attention must be continued to raise awareness; To confront the wrong diets being promoted on social media that affect the health of our society.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar pointed out the interest in confronting malnutrition in children from a young age, which affects the child’s growth and intelligence level, and reduces the level of Comprehension and academic achievement during the educational stages, stressing the importance of raising awareness of the harms of eating too much sugar, and the necessity of setting controls for eating sugars to avoid health problems in Egyptian society.
During his speech, Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the General Authority for Institutes and Teaching Hospitals, said: Nutrition is an important part of health and development. Better nutrition is linked to improved health for infants, children, and mothers. Strengthening the immune system reduces the risk of non-communicable diseases (such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease) and longevity. It is also important to study nutrition to understand How to make healthy food choices, and balance macronutrients, which can significantly improve our quality of life.
For her part, Dr. Enas Mohamed Fawzi, Pediatrics and Clinical Nutrition Consultant, mentioned the importance of community participation and its role in maintaining nutrition. Also, scientific research has proven that the more community participation increases and is effective, the more we maintain a healthy diet and sound and sustainable nutrition to maintain the reduction of malnutrition diseases in society. During her speech, Dr. Jihan Fouad, clinical nutrition consultant and former director of the National Institute of Nutrition, pointed out the importance of gender equality in the field of nutrition, as the world suffers Especially in developing countries, women are affected at different stages of life by the rise in malnutrition indicators from childhood to old age. They are less fortunate in insurance coverage and access to health services related to nutrition and improve the nutrition rates and health status of women. There are models and projects that have been completed in different countries that have improved these conditions. For her part, Dr. Iman Sultan, Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the National Institute of Nutrition, said that it represents diabetes. The second type is a population problem, as it represents 18.4% of the total population, and the numbers are expected to increase by 2045, and this represents an economic burden on the state.
