2 trillion pounds to develop infrastructure to accommodate development arteries in the new republic
1 million passengers per day, the total capacity of the number of people frequenting Egypt’s trains
8 million tons of goods are transported on various train lines annually
During the era of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the various transport sectors witnessed a giant industrial revolution after years of neglect, as the state spent more than 2 trillion pounds To develop this vital facility, including the Egyptian railway network, which began construction in 1851 during the reign of Khedive Abbas I, and the first “Cairo/Alexandria” line was opened in it. With a length of 208 km in the year 1854, the population of Egypt at that time was about 4 million people. The construction of the network was gradually expanded until its length reached 10 thousand km. Development and maintenance work for the network lines continued over a period of 160 years “from 1854 until 2014”, but it did not keep up. Global safety and security rates and significant population growth during that period, so the state had no alternative but to extend its hand to comprehensive development of all elements of the current network, so a development plan was adopted that includes five axes: “mobile units”; Infrastructure – Signal and control systems – workshop development – the human element.
