NFL analyst mocked for ’embarrassing’ Lamar Jackson remarks after watching him on sidelines vs Commanders

Former NFL tight end Logan Paulsen has been mocked online for his take on Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and his dazzling play against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Jackson finished the game completing 20-of-26 passes for 323 yards and a touchdown and added 40 rushing yards in the contest.

Jackson overcame a first-drive interception to hold off the upstart Commanders, drawing the attention of Paulsen, a former Washington signee.

‘I don’t know if anybody thought – I know I didn’t think it – that (Lamar) had that kind of ability at the line of scrimmage,’ Paulsen said. ‘It’s very similar to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning to just get you into the right look consistently. That’s super impressive.’

While drawing comparisons to Manning and Brady is nice, saying Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, didn’t have one of the cornerstones of running an NFL offense did not sit right with some on social media.

NFL analyst Jim Trotter posted a thinking-face emoji in response to Paulsen’s comments.

‘Players and coaches admitting they had no idea Lamar was great at reading coverages is an extremely embarrassing thing to admit. Making reads was never an issue for him, his throwing mechanics/accuracy was,’ another social-media user said.

‘Year 7, and these smooth brains had never watched an entire game of Lamar Jackson. At some point these “experts” or “ex-players” always tell on themselves. 8 was in a wishbone offense that was being glitched. After playing and operating at a high level in a pro-style offense (at Louisville).’

‘Anybody who has watched Lamar since Louisville knew he could identify coverages and read defenses. Logan can miss me with this.’

Not everyone saw Paulsen’s comments as dragging Jackson down.

ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes saw his remarks as ‘really insightful.’

Others said how it put in perspective for everyone how good Jackson is, with a dual-threat, elusive ability to go alongside dissecting a defense.

Jackson is putting together another strong campaign for NFL MVP and it is clear many are taking notice.
