The National Council for Human Rights was held in cooperation with the United Nations Population Programme,  A consultative meeting of experts to discuss ways to support the rights of marginalized and at-risk women and girls.

 

This meeting came within the framework of following up on the implementation of Egypt’s national and international commitments, and within the framework of implementing the goals of the National Human Rights Strategy.

 

The meeting was opened by Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of the Council, who stressed in her speech the importance of discussing the challenges and violations facing women at risk, ways to protect them and enhance their rights, and learn about the best ways and best practices. To support and empower them, by presenting the challenges facing women who are in primary care and those at risk, and ways to protect and support their rights. 

 

While Dr. Wafa Benjamin, Secretary of the Social Rights Committee, expressed that this The meeting comes within the framework of the joint cooperation program between the Council, represented by the Social Rights Committee and the United Nations Population Programme, and aims to support and promote rights and reproductive health and follow up on the implementation of Egypt’s national and international obligations.

 

As he explained, Dr. Amr Othman, Chairman of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction, explained the role of the Fund in confronting abuse and treating addiction for females, and that 5 female treatment departments have been equipped with addiction treatment centers, and that 5% of those applying for treatment are female, and that campaigns are being launched to confront the problem of abuse, including abuse among females. And the relationship of affected women to domestic violence and violence against females, and praised the role of volunteers  The number of volunteers reaches 33,000, of whom 70% are female.

 

The meeting, which was organized by the Social Rights Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Unit, discussed the challenges and violations facing women due to factors such as mental illness. , substance addiction, physical disability, AIDS, and old age.

 

It also highlighted the risks facing women and girls in light of armed conflicts and during asylum processes. This takes place in two sessions  The first session was about the challenges facing women and girls at risk and ways to solve them, headed by Mr. Hani Ibrahim, a member of the Council.

 

The second session was about national efforts and the necessary recommendations to support and protect women and girls at risk, headed by Dr. Ayman. Al-Zuhri, Secretary of the Civil and Political Rights Committee.

 

  Representatives of the relevant ministries, such as the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Health and Population, participated in the meeting, in addition to representatives of specialized national councils such as the National Council for Women and the National Council for Disability Affairs, along with a number of experts, academics, and civil society organizations.

 

 

 

 

This meeting aims to establish  Recommendations and proposals to enhance the rights of marginalized and at-risk women, and ensure their protection from all forms of discrimination and violence, in line with national and international obligations.
