The Russian Foreign Ministry announced its withdrawal from the Council of Baltic Sea States.
It is reported that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov sent a corresponding letter to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, as well as to the Council Secretariat in Stockholm, Sweden.
Lavrov sent a letter with a notice of withdrawal from the organization. Meanwhile, the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation took a decision to withdraw from the Baltic Parliamentary Congress.
The ministry said in a statement that Western countries – let’s call it a spade – have monopolized the council for their opportunistic purposes, and they plan to organize its work in a way that is detrimental to Russian interests.
