Poland refuses to pay for gas in rubles

The representative of the Polish government for strategic energy infrastructure, Pyotr Nemsky, said that Poland will not agree to Russia’s demands to pay for gas in rubles.

“If necessary, and if the appropriate decision is made, we can refuse gas supplies at any time,” Nemsky said.

He added that all potential risks are being considered. However, Poland is ready for them.

Nemsky stressed that Poland is also ready to take measures from Russia if supplies are cut off.

On April 25, the head of the Polish gas pipeline network Gaz-System, Thomas Stempin, said that the country’s gas system is fully ready to cut off gas supplies from Russia. According to him, already in September 2022, a new gas pipeline will be opened through Denmark to Poland.

Before that, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that his country will adhere to the opinion of the European Commission when deciding to pay for Russian gas in rubles.
