The Japanese Coast Guard says North Korea has launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan.
Authorities warned fishing boats in the area of the potential danger and to stay away from the wreckage if found.
Earlier, the United States proposed imposing new sanctions on the DPRK for its series of ballistic missile launches.
North Korea has warned that the response to US sanctions over the missile launches will be “harsh”.
On January 5 and 11, North Korea tested a hypersonic missile that flew 700 km and “accurately hit the target”. This is North Korea’s first weapons test this year.
