US Senate proposes declaring Russia a “sponsor of terrorism”

US senators have proposed providing $450 million in military aid to Ukraine next year and securing Russia’s “state sponsor of terrorism” status. Relevant information is available on the website of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

“As Ukraine faces yet another build-up of Russian forces near its border and the threat of invasion in mid-January, the United States must do all it can now to contain Russia and provide Ukraine with the supplies and support it needs to defend itself,” said a statement to the council by Senator Jim Risch. ..

Senators said that in order to contain Russia, the US presidential administration should urgently impose sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, provide assistance and strengthen bilateral defense cooperation with Ukraine.

The statement also said that “the bill … approves $450 million in foreign military financing for Ukraine in 2022 … identifies Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.”
