The Pittsburgh Steelers expect to finally announce the signing of Aaron Rodgers following the NFL Draft in Green Bay.
Mike Tomlin’s team were linked with ex-Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders but, during Thursday’s first round, the Steelers instead selected defensive tackle Derrick Harmon.
That decision intensified speculation surrounding the future of Rodgers, who met with Pittsburgh coaches last month.
And it is understood that the Steelers anticipate adding Rodgers to their roster in the coming weeks.
The veteran quarterback was believed to be reluctant to announce a decision on his future while the eyes of the football world were on Green Bay, where he began his NFL career two decades ago.
Had the draft been held anywhere else, Mail Sport understands, Rodgers’ future may well have already been resolved.

The veteran quarterback has been pondering his next move since the end of the 2024 season

Pittsburgh opted not to draft ex-Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the first round
The 41-year-old has been pondering his next move after being released by the New York Jets, with new head coach Aaron Glenn opting to bring in Justin Fields.
Rodgers finally resurfaced last week, lifting the lid on his personal life and his future in the NFL.
‘I’m in a different phase of my life, I’m 41 years old, I’m in a serious relationship, I have personal commitments I’ve made… and people in my inner circle battling difficult stuff,’ Rodgers said. ‘To make a commitment to a team is a big thing.’
The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants had also been floated as potential landing spots for Rodgers, who teased retirement after the Jets ended the 2024 season with a 5-12 record.
At present, the Steelers only have two quarterbacks on their roster in Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson, so it is possible they may add another in later rounds of the draft.
First-round pick Harmon, meanwhile, announced after the Steelers took him that his mom is on life support in hospital.
In an emotional interview with reporters, he fought back tears as he explained: ‘It’s truly a blessing (being drafted by the Steelers). It’s really a blessing.
‘But it was a little bittersweet. My mom wasn’t with me – she’s at the hospital right now on life support.
‘It was a little bittersweet because she worked just as hard as me to get to this moment. But it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Like I said, I’m very excited.
‘After I get off the phone with you guys, I’m headed straight to the hospital to tell her that her son got drafted.’
