Anyway, four was enough and Villa now move within two points of their top-five rivals Newcastle, and go level with fifth-placed Nottingham Forest, as the race to secure Champions League football hots up.

Elsewhere, Manchester City scored two late goals to secure a monster three points at Goodison Park in their hunt to finish in the top five. They now sit fourth.

One of the games of the day was down in west London as Brentford ended on the right side of a six-goal thriller with Brighton.

Elsewhere in the capital, Southampton secured a rare point on the road at West Ham, while Crystal Palace and Bournemouth played out a stinking stalemate.
