The New York Rangers have fired coach Peter Laviolette after the team missed the playoffs.
Laviolette, 60, helmed the team for two seasons and helped win the Rangers the Presidents’ Trophy and lead them to the Eastern Conference Finals last year.
However, they slipped this year as they went just 39-36-7 in the regular season, with the Rangers announcing his departure on Saturday afternoon.
‘Thank you for everything, Lavi, and all the best,’ the team wrote on X.
Associate head coach Phil Housley also lost his job.
Furthermore, assistants Dan Muse and Michael Peca will have the opportunity to interview for a chance to keep their positions on the next coaching staff, according to The Athletic.
