Ram Charan, star of the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning “RRR,” has unveiled the first look of his 16th film, which is titled “Peddi.”
The pan-India project represents a collaboration between Mythri Movie Makers, Sukumar Writings, and producer Venkata Satish Kilaru’s Vriddhi Cinemas banner. The film has been described as one that will take audiences on a “rural, emotional and rustic journey.” It will be directed by Buchi Babu Sana, who won the best Telugu-language film award at India’s National Film Awards for his debut “Uppena” (2021). Sana previously served as a writer and assistant director to “Pushpa” filmmaker Sukumar on hit film “Rangasthalam” (2018).
Following a pre-look teaser, the production team marked Ram Charan’s birthday with the official title reveal. The name “Peddi” reportedly signifies the protagonist’s character in the film.
The first-look poster shows Ram Charan in a transformation from his usual appearance. He sports unkempt hair, a beard, nose ring, and is seen smoking a cigar. A second image features him holding a cricket bat with a rural stadium in the background — suggesting a narrative connected to cricket.
“Peddi” features an ensemble cast crossing regional boundaries. Bollywood star Janhvi Kapoor, who was also one of the leads in “RRR” star NTR Jr’s “Devara Part 1,” takes the female lead opposite Ram Charan, while Kannada-language cinema superstar Shiva Rajkumar (“Bhairathi Ranagal”) appears in a significant role. Jagapathi Babu (“Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2”) and Divyendu Sharma (“Mirzapur”) are also part of the cast.
The technical team includes Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman (“Slumdog Millionaire”) handling the soundtrack, cinematographer R. Rathnavelu (“Devara Part 1”), editor Navin Nooli (“Thandel”), and production designer Avinash Kolla (“Dasara”).
