I went on a first date with a relatively normal guy from Hinge – but now I want to block him over his cringe texts

A single woman has been left feeling shocked after a man she had one date with bombarded her with intense text messages.

The date, who she met via Hinge dating app, professed his love and even declared that he wanted her to be the mother of his children.

Sharing on Reddit, the 25-year-old revealed she had been chatting with the 28-year-old man for a fortnight before meeting for a dinner date one weekend.

Their night together was pleasant but brief, lasting around an hour-and-a-half, where they spoke over dinner and held hands while walking back to the train station.

She found him ‘relatively normal’ in person, maybe a ‘little anxious’, but nothing that raised red flags at the time.

The pair were planning a second date when things took an uncomfortable turn.

What followed was a barrage of unsettling texts that left her deeply uncomfortable.

‘These texts after our first date are concerning me,’ she said.

He sent a series of messages declaring his love, saying, ‘I love you and everything about you’ and ‘I was going to ask you tonight to be my girlfriend, to be honest’.

The Hinge date then took it a step further, telling her, ‘I want you to be my baby momma and spend the rest of my life with you.’

Shocked by his intensity, she responded by questioning how he could possibly feel that way after just one date.

The overwhelming consensus online was that she should block him immediately.

Many agreed that this was a classic case of love bombing, a manipulation tactic often used to establish control quickly in relationships.

Some suggested that he wasn’t in love with her but with the idea of her, filling a void rather than forming a genuine connection.

Others warned that if she didn’t cut ties now, he could continue popping up in her life, sending sporadic messages and refusing to take no for an answer.

One commenter found his approach particularly unsettling, saying, ‘I want you to be my baby momma’ as a compliment is wild – who’s going to be flattered by that?’

Another agreed, writing, ‘I literally twisted my face in disgust when I read it.’

Others pointed out that while whirlwind romances can happen, this level of intensity after a single date was a glaring red flag.

One person shared their own experience, revealing that they ignored similar signs early on.

‘This happened to me once and I ignored the signs, I convinced myself it was just a language barrier and thought nothing more of it (as it was obviously too soon),’ she said.

‘Then months later he admitted to sabotaging birth control so he could try to get me pregnant and have a reason to stay in the country!’

While some noted that they had fallen in love quickly with their partners, even knowing early on that they had met ‘the one’, they still found this man’s behaviour inappropriate.

One person, happily married for ten years, admitted they knew after the first date that they had met their future spouse but said, ‘I wasn’t professing my love like this fool right away.’

The woman was advised to block the man immediately and move on.

Many saw his actions as a potential precursor to more concerning behaviour, with one warning, ‘Cut ties now before he becomes a stalker because this is stalker material.’

Others reassured her that, despite the unsettling experience, at least she had dodged a bullet early on.

As one person put it, ‘No wasted time learning he’s not the man for you. Kind of nice when the weird ones are time-efficient and put it right out there.’
