It’s time to bring out the Viagra in the old folk’s home because The Golden Bachelor is officially coming to Australia and it looks like our incoming silver fox has been selected! Bow down to the new supreme.
In 2024, it appeared that the Bachie universe Down Under had officially imploded, with Network 10 announcing that The Bachelors would not be returning. However, shortly after the devastating reality TV tea was spilled, it was announced that The Golden Bachelor would be gracing our nation in 2025 on Channel Nine.
Now, in an exciting development, it looks like the ball on The Golden Bachelor is on a roll after paparazzi pics snapped the Bachie during filming.
Here’s everything we know about Australia’s first-ever The Golden Bachelor.

Who is The Golden Bachelor for 2025?
While we haven’t gotten an official press release from Channel Nine, Daily Mail Australia has managed to obtain paparazzi pics of the incoming bachie, revealing that Australia’s first Golden Bachelor is “50-something” Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden.
Who is Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden, Australia’s first Golden Bachelor?
According to the Sydneysider’s LinkedIn Profile, the incoming Bachie is an Infrastructure Engineer for the Woolworths Group. He is also an Advisor / Investor for BlockScribe.
The father of three is also a “passionate sailor”.
Per Chattr, Barry was previously married to Audrey Myrden. However, in 2011 Audrey passed away following an aggressive malignant brain tumour diagnosis in 2009.
A source who claims to be close to The Golden Bachelor said they’re not surprised with Barry’s appearance on the show, claiming that his three kids – Charlie, Jack and Declan – disliked the women he dated.
“Bear is always complaining that his boys are saying that he is bringing around the wrong kind of girls that are just too young and hot for him,” the source told Daily Mail Australia.
“We were always saying that he needs to be put on a show like MAFS, so seeing him up for the Bachelor role is no surprise.”
What is The Golden Bachelor about?
If you’re not across the concept, let me put you on. The Golden Bachelor is a spin-off of the Bachelor franchise but instead of featuring a slew of young people, it follows a bunch of singles in their golden years — silver foxes and silver baddies, if you will — as they date a heap of suitors to find love in their elder age.
It was first trialled in the United States with 72-year-old GILF Gerry Turner, a retired widower. The series was incredibly successful in numbers and in results. It ended with Gerry getting hitched to 71-year-old contestant Theresa Nist in a live television special broadcasting their wedding.
Sadly for the cute couple, it wasn’t meant to be and they got divorced three months later but it was a television spectacle nonetheless!!!!

The news that a Golden Bachelor series is coming to Australia is incredibly exciting. As an entertainment reporter who has covered reality dating shows for years, I’ve noted a consistent theme on social media from the public — people want more realistic love stories. One way to do that? Find older contestants who are truly ready to settle down rather than those who are attempting to gain their 15 minutes of fame.
In Australia, it seems like networks have been pretty resistant to having older people on a dating show. Well, with the exception of another Channel Nine series called My Mum, Your Dad, which saw kids navigate the love lives of their parents.
When does The Golden Bachelor Australia start?
There’s no specific date yet, but we do know that The Golden Bachelor Australia will drop in 2025.
Who is hosting The Golden Bachelor Australia?
Unfortunately, The Bachelor darling Osher Günsberg will not be hosting this one. Instead, Channel Nine have brought on Farmer Wants A Wife host Samantha Armytage for this love fest!
