Cleo Rutene, the twin sister of Married At First Sight‘s (MAFS) Awhina Rutene, has fired back at Carina Mirabile after she questioned her “calibre” in an off-screen conversation with Paul Antoine.
Monday night’s episode lit social media on fire after it was revealed that controversial MAFS groom Paul Antoine had a fling with Awhina’s twin sister, Cleo, a head of partner swap week.
You see, the juicy gossip bomb was dropped ahead of the partner swap because the experts had partnered Paul with Awhina, which left a sour taste in Carina’s mouth.
However, during one of the tasks, Paul revealed to Awhina that Carina called her sister “low calibre” when she found out about their romantic history.
Naturally, Awhina was sent into orbit with the revelation, considering the fact that she built a strong friendship with both Carina and Paul.
“I’m really pissed off,” Awhina said.
“Carina and I had a good friendship. We were texting. We were supposed to go on a double date. So, to know she’s made calibre comments about my twin sister, which extends to me, that is so wrong. Trust me, I’m not gonna let her get away with it.”
Shortly after the episode aired, Cleo took to her personal Instagram Stories to chuck in her two cents on the scathing confession, stating that she would’ve preferred if “none of my past relationships be aired” and adding that Carina’s “low calibre” comment was “really shitty”.
“My inbox has been flooded from people wanting to know how I feel about the comment that was made by Carina. I would have preferred none of my past relationships be aired. However we’re here now, my sister went on a reality TV show, so this was bound to happen,” Cleo began.
“I found it really, really shitty, just because when I had seen leaked photos of Paul and Carina, I was saying how beautiful she looked and how happy I am for them. I had spoken to Paul’s closest friend, because I am on good terms with his friends and vice versa. I had expressed how happy I was for them. They had said they were getting along great, and I was all in support.
“For her to then turn around and say I’m of low calibre based solely on my physical attributes was really shitty.
“We’re all out here trying to do better. Don’t judge anyone. That [is] what I call a mean girl, 2.0 so don’t point fingers at Jamie [Marinos].”
Cleo’s jab at calling Carina’s comment “mean girl” behaviour relates to the bride’s recent rift with fellow 2024 participant Jamie Marinos, who described her as a “mean girl” for coming after Lauren Hall during Couples’ Retreat Week.

At the time of writing, neither Carina, Paul nor Awhina has spoken out publicly about the comment, but it appears that it will be coming back to bite Carina in the bundah when Paul reads out his letter, in which he said he got the “ick” from her after she made the “low calibre” comment.
AIYIYIYI. The MAFS producers have really brought ALL the drama with this year’s season.
