Awkward moment £50,000-per-week Manchester United star appears to IGNORE young fan pleading for an autograph and drives off while scrolling on his phone outside Old Trafford

Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho awkwardly appeared to ignore a young supporter as he drove off from Old Trafford at the weekend.

Garnacho, 20, has been one of the rare bright spots in an otherwise dismal season for United, with the Argentine having scored eight goals and added six assists across 41 appearances.

Given his status as an academy graduate, the forward is a firm fan favourite and Garnacho’s name is often sung loudest by supporters.

However, Garnacho seemingly snubbed a fan in a clip that has gone viral on social media. 

The video was filmed following United’s defeat by Fulham on penalties in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday. 

In the 13-second clip, a young fan could be seen waiting patiently by Garnacho’s car – believed to be his £120,000 white 4×4 Range Rover – with the 20-year-old inside the vehicle alongside another individual. 

However, Garnacho’s eyes were firmly fixed on his phone as he slowly drove away from United’s ground amid traffic.

He could be seen turning to his companion, while also scrolling on his mobile as the child remained metres away from him with a pen and a notepad as he looked to grab his autograph.

The young fan could be heard saying: ‘Garnacho, please,’ before the clip cut off, and it is unclear if the Argentine did stop, with a separate video showing Garnacho putting his window back up. 

It must be noted that Garnacho is regularly seen giving up his time for fans at games and at United’s Carrington training ground and he may have posed and mingled with supporters following the Fulham defeat.

Nevertheless, the incident comes just weeks after Man City star James McAtee was accused of ‘ruining’ a young boy’s birthday after making a sudden U-turn on his decision to hand over his shirt due to a bizarre reason.

The incident took place following City’s 3-1 victory over Club Brugge in the Champions League in January. 

Fans waited outside the gates of the Etihad after the match and there was excitement as young English midfielder McAtee drove out and rolled down his window while holding his match shirt.

McAtee then pointed in the direction of one child and told a steward to take the shirt over to him before quickly changing his mind.

The former Sheffield United loanee had noticed the 10-year-old, named Oaklan, was wearing a coat with the badge of the Blades’ rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

‘Oh no, he’s got a Sheffield Wednesday top on. I hate Sheffield Wednesday,’ McAtee said before driving off. 

The boy’s mother Chantelle Howard subsequently took to social media to slam McAtee for his actions.

‘Imagine travelling all that way, braving the freezing cold after watching a Champions League game, just for your little football-mad 10-year-old to have his birthday night ruined,’ Howard wrote on Facebook.

‘James McAtee had the chance to make a birthday unforgettable – he handed out his shirt, and you should have seen the pure joy on the kids’ faces! 

‘But then, when it came to Oaklan, he changed his mind… all because of a Sheffield Wednesday badge on his coat. Never mind that he was head-to-toe in Man City gear, having spent all his birthday money in the club shop that night.

‘Kids look up to their idols, whether they support a local team or one of the biggest in the world. 

‘Not everyone can get to the Etihad every week, but that doesn’t make them any less of a fan. Moments like these shape how young supporters see the game – and their heroes. It’s a shame when football forgets what really matters.’
